Which wallpaper is better to choose for the nursery: on the basis of paper, non-woven or vinyl?

Every parent wants his child to grow up in good conditions. Most of the time the baby can spend in his bedroom. It is desirable that all materials used in the interior of the children's room, are environmentally friendly. This also applies to wallpaper.

Paper

This is a classic type of wallpaper, known for many years. Many people remember the Soviet wall coverings, which are ripped off during recycling along with plaster. It is now rarely used such means of decorating the interior, but they have certain advantages when used for the children's room:

  • made of natural materials: paper can not harm even the most sensitive little man;
  • they allow free circulation of moisture and air due to the microporous structure of cellulose;
  • suitable for children prone to allergies;
  • are relatively inexpensive;
  • It is in this category there are a huge number of children's colors.

In addition to the advantages, there are certain disadvantages of children's paper wallpaper.

  • For their sticking you need perfectly smooth walls. If this condition is not met, then all the surface hillocks will be clearly visible after decorating with such wallpaper.
  • The joints are clearly visible between the pieces of wallpaper, as the paper is compressed in a dry form after the wallpaper glue dries.
  • Difficulty in installing them: paper wallpapers are severely deformed when soaked, blistering, and the edges can tear. Usually you have to call professionals to really high-quality paste over the walls with such decor.
  • If the nursery is located on the sunny side, then they quickly burn out under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.
  • They can not be washed from various household pollutants.
  • Quickly lose appearance quality due to normal wear and tear.
  • Due to temperature fluctuations and prolonged use, they can come off the wall.

There are two types of paper coatings on the wall: simplex and duplex. In them, respectively, one layer or two. The latter type is more durable when sticking, and during operation. Therefore, when buying is better to pay attention to it. The price for a better-looking wallpaper is also higher.

For the nursery, you can use the following version of paper wallpaper: duplex view with acrylic foam. They can be painted after several years of operation and wiped with a slightly damp cloth, which is convenient and economical.

A child grows, his color preferences may change, and such a coating will always easily change the color of the interior.

Flizelinovye

Flizelin is a non-woven material on cellulose with the addition of artificial or natural fibers. Due to the manufacturing technology, the material becomes very durable.

The advantages of using non-woven wallpaper in the children's room are:

  • excellent resistance to wear and damage, unlike paper (this quality also affects the convenience of gluing such material);
  • considered to be fire resistant, which increases the safety of the home in case of accidental fire in the room;
  • they can be washed with soapy water and a brush, which is very important for maintaining cleanliness in the nursery;
  • simplicity of installation: they are glued directly to the wall without preliminary lubrication on the floor with wallpaper glue;
  • when removing this coating in the future, it is enough to tamper them with a spatula, a non-woven layer will remain on the wall, on which you can glue new wallpapers;
  • extended service life.

Negative qualities of non-woven coating:

  • they do not allow air and can cause the appearance of mold under their surface;
  • they practically do not hide the unevenness of the surface of the walls, since their thickness is small;
  • relatively high cost;
  • the relief surface of such wallpaper tends to accumulate dust, so they must be regularly cleaned with a damp cloth or vacuumed;
  • if the color of the wall is not uniform, then through non-woven wallpaper this can be seen again because of their small thickness.

If you use non-woven wallpaper for the nursery, you can see in them the main advantage - they can be washed and painted several times, thereby updating the decorative coating.

Some types of such wallpapers are even specially adapted for use by children as an easel.You can draw on them with special markers that are washed with a damp cloth and detergent, leaving no trace.

Vinyl

Vinyl, or polyvinyl chloride, is a synthetic polymer that is used in almost all areas of human activity.

Wall-paper from such material usually consist of three layers:

  • the top one is actually vinyl;
  • medium - it masks the irregularities of the wall;
  • lower - non-woven or paper.

The advantages of vinyl type wallpaper when used in the nursery:

  • increased resistance to dirt and damage, as in non-woven wallpapers;
  • hide minor irregularities of the wall due to its thickness;
  • long service life;
  • do not fade under the influence of sunlight;
  • they do not tear and do not peel off from temperature differences;
  • due to the thickness they form a small noise insulating layer, which is especially important in the nursery;
  • they are simple in sticking, as they are most often sold on non-woven base and, accordingly, are glued directly to the wall;
  • variety of texture: the upper vinyl layer can imitate embossed plaster, fabric, patterns.

Cons of wallpaper for children of this type:

  • are quite expensive relative to non-woven and paper wallpaper;
  • there are few children's design options for boys and girls, mainly adult colors and patterns;
  • may be harmful to children's health, as some types of cheap vinyl wallpaper may emit harmful volatile substances into the surrounding air (it is believed that low-quality vinyl can release formaldehyde within 4 years from the date of sticking).

For the decoration of the child's room is better to use solid (evaporated) vinyl. All harmful substances have been removed from it, and such wallpapers have a European quality certificate.

It is also necessary when buying to pay attention to whether there is a perforation in such wallpaper, that is, to look at them in the light. Small holes throughout the roll area are needed for natural ventilation to occur, and mold and fungus do not appear behind the wallpaper.

What kind of coating to choose?

The main criteria for deciding what kind of coverage the walls will have in the nursery are environmental friendliness and ease of operation. Therefore, the choice is somewhat complicated.

It is believed that paper wallpaper - the best option because of the naturalness of the material. But they can not be washed.And certainly they will not stand children's wall paintings and sticking posters. But these wallpapers are relatively inexpensive and can be changed frequently.

If we talk about non-woven wallpaper, they are easy to clean and are also made of harmless material. But their problem is thickness: they will not hide the irregularities of the wall. The price is not much more than the paper.

      Vinyl wallpapers can be a source of evaporation of harmful substances. If you take environmentally friendly vinyl, you will have to stock up on a large amount of money.

      As a result, paper and non-woven wallpapers still remain the best decorative wall covering for a child’s room. There are a large number of colors of these species on the market, which allows you to choose an option for every taste and wallet.
