Choosing a computer chair and a table for him for the child

A computer desk and a regular desktop for lessons are two different tables, so when preparing a workplace for a child, it is worth considering in advance whether the student will use a desktop computer or laptop on it. It’s not the external differences, but the constructional ones, which at first glance are invisible to an inexperienced user.

When choosing a computer desk for a child, also consider that a special chair is required for it.

Special features

For a start, it is worth paying attention to the difference between a computer desk for a student and a written one. The first and main design feature of the computer desk is the depth of the tabletop. It should be no less than 70 cm. For comfortable and safe operation, the monitor should be located no closer than 65 cm.

At first glance, the monitor still stands on a regular desk, but for some reason no one thinks that there will be a keyboard in front of the student, and you need to leave space for exercise books and textbooks.

Even better, if the table is equipped with a monitor stand, then the child will have additional storage space and a keyboard (under the stand). However, orthopedic physicians are categorically against supports, which are not clearly located in front of the child’s eyes, but to the side (at a 45-degree angle to the person sitting). This leads to a 100% violation of posture.

Even an adult is hard to control the position of his body when he needs to look at the monitor from the side, and the children instantly distort the shoulders and spine.

For the same reason, it is not recommended to buy a corner table for a junior student.

The second feature that distinguishes a children's computer desk from a written one is the presence of a hole for wires. This is a very important component that allows you to keep the workplace in order. Wires from the monitor, speakers, printer are very unnerving and distract the attention of the student from the learning process. The mouse and keyboard should generally be wireless.

The third feature is the length of the tabletop. If you have to strictly save space and there is no way to make a workplace with a length of at least 130 cm, it’s better not to buy a computer desk at all. Equip the writing, and the child can use the computer in the living room.

For simultaneous work with papers and the Internet, the child needs more space, he should be able to fully write, without removing the keyboard from the table at this time.

How to choose a chair?

Actually chairs on castors with a swivel seat are not school chairs, but office options. They are designed for instant response and the ability to quickly move from table to table, without getting up.

Child chairs are contraindicated. A swivel chair in a few months will spoil the schoolboy's posture, since no child refuses to spin on it during the lessons, and this ensures that his body will be rotated 90 degrees when writing.

Computer chair must meet the following criteria:

  • have wheels to move from the monitor to the writing station;
  • have a seat movement lock to fix the seat and prevent it from spinning around its axis;
  • gas lift to adjust the height of the seat - when working with a keyboard and mouse, the elbows should be above the table top to reduce the load on the wrists and to prevent the occurrence of tunnel syndrome, while writing, the elbows should lie on the table.

Important! For teenagers, the criteria for choosing a table and chairs do not differ from the criteria for younger students. The only exception is that the size of the chair may be already adult and the seat lock is not required.

How to choose the right option?

There are models with removable monitor supports, which are located behind the desktop. Outwardly, he looks cool, but carries a lot of inconvenience. There is a need for more space for such a table, the space for which the table top is lagging behind the wall is not used in any way functionally (if only for storing any garbage).

The ideal option is a set: a table with a tilt-adjustable tabletop, but a fixed monitor stand, and a chair, adjustable in height. If only a corner table rises into your room, then do not rush to buy the first one that has attracted your look.

For schoolchildren and teenagers, corner tables must meet several parameters.

  • The place where the child works at the PC (as a rule, this is the angle, the monitor is best located there) should be gently rounded. The finish should be flush. No upward edging. This brings great discomfort at work.
  • On one side of the monitor, the worktop should be much longer than the other. Due to the longer part you provide a written place for the child. In this case, for the right-handed, this part should be located on the right, for the left-handed person - on the left (so that the child does not touch the keyboard with his elbows when writing). The edge of the table top should be straight. No waves and other design stuff.
  • Drawers for writing utensils should be located only from the short part of the table top. It is necessary. Installing them next to the working area, you facilitate access to the office inside the drawers, but significantly reduce the space for the baby’s feet. It is better to let the student move to the other end of the table on the chair than to ruin his posture, trying to fit 50 cm between the drawers and the keyboard.

For boys and girls

      In fact, the difference between computer tables for boys and girls is small. It usually consists of the color range of furniture and accessories.Pastel shades are more suitable for girls, and bright combinations for boys. Girls more often prefer combinations of beige and apple green, pale pink and lilac, gray and pink. Moreover, if you offer them the same combinations, but in bright pure colors, then, most likely, they will refuse. The boys will choose a combination of blue and red, green and yellow, black and white. This is due to the characteristics of color perception. Also, psychologists say that girls will be happy if there is a lock with a key on the boxes. They are more scrupulous about personal space and prefer to have secret "chests" for their girlish treasures.
