Bamboo carpets: innovations in the interior

Humanity uses carpets to decorate and warm the home from time immemorial. The oldest discovered is dated to the V century BC and is stored in the Hermitage. Since then, much has changed in the production technology and in the materials used, but carpets are still popular in the design of premises. Innovation deserves special attention - bamboo fabric carpets, which were first created and put into mass production by Japanese scientists in 2002.

Bamboo carpet

Carpets are different. They differ in materials and method of manufacture. Recently, the bamboo carpet has become increasingly popular. It is made from artificial (but not synthetic) material of plant origin - viscose, which is extracted from the bamboo core.

Bamboo fiber contains a unique substance - “bamboo bamboo”, which has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

There are two ways of obtaining and processing bamboo fiber.

  • The ground wood is treated with chemicals to soften it (caustic sodium NaOH) and bleaching (carbon disulfide CS2). Despite the fact that all toxic substances are washed out of the fiber during the subsequent processing process, this method is still not considered 100% environmentally friendly, but it is used most often due to low financial costs and high material production rate;
  • The mechanical method is optimal for the processing of plant materials. The wood is softened with enzymes, then the threads are “combed out” from it. This method is absolutely environmentally friendly, but is used much less frequently due to the high cost.

Whatever method is obtained bamboo fiber, it is considered the most environmentally friendly and beneficial to health.

Types of coverage

Two types of carpet are produced from bamboo: batten and cloth (fleecy).

  • Rack mat or mat They are made from young stems of a plant or large pressed trunks.The slats are polished to perfect smoothness, held together by strong threads and placed on a fabric or rubberized base. These rack mats are ideal for use in the kitchen or bathroom.
  • Shaggy multi-colored coating get the method of weaving bamboo yarn (fiber with the addition of dyes), and the pile may be of different lengths and densities. The longer the villi, the softer and more pleasant to the touch mat; the more of them, the clearer the pattern will turn out.

Products with a short nap are more rigid and are suitable for use in corridors and other areas with high traffic.

Medium pile can be used in any room, but long nap carpets are recommended for the bedroom, as they are very soft and fluffy, but it is more difficult to care for them. Bamboo mats and floor mats are great for yoga or gymnastics. Small-sized models can also be used as table-top coatings (for example, coasters for hot dishes), and even for making sushi.

Advantages and disadvantages

Bamboo carpets for flooring have many positive qualities.

  • Antiallergic. Even asthma patients are free to use a bamboo mat;
  • Durability. Viscose is a very durable material that can last for many years without losing its qualities;
  • Unpretentious care. For this, bamboo models deserve the special love of housewives;
  • Affordable price. Since bamboo is a grass that can grow 2 meters in just 1 day, this material is never in short supply, which affects its value. The exception is made by handicrafts for individual orders, although in this case bamboo will cost you much less than the same silk, not yielding visually;
  • 100% environmental friendliness. Due to the growth rate, no pesticides or other chemical additives are used in growing the material;
  • Antibacterial properties. About 65-70% of microbes, parasites and bacteria die when they come into contact with the coating. The carpet also does not absorb or keep unpleasant odors;
  • Water resistance. Unlike other viscose materials, bamboo fiber is not afraid of moisture;
  • Air permeability. It is easy to clean, simply by vacuuming on both sides;
  • Antistatic. This quality makes the bamboo carpet the best choice for rooms crammed with electronic equipment;
  • Appearance. A variety of patterns and colors makes it possible to choose a carpet for any interior. Silk shine gives it a rich look, so most of your guests will not even distinguish it from a silk carpet.

Among the drawbacks can be noted only a large weight of products with a long nap.

Care

It is very easy to care for products made of bamboo fiber, it is enough just to vacuum the carpet from two sides, and even the covering with long fibers will be completely cleaned of dust and dirt particles. Mats and floor mats can be wiped with a damp cloth. For even wear (abrasion), the carpet is recommended to periodically rotate 180 degrees.

Carpets do not need to be shaken or ventilated in the sun, because they do not absorb any odors and harmful insects (mites, bedbugs and the like) do not get into them because of the special properties of bamboo bamboo carpets

This quality, together with other advantages, makes the bamboo carpet an ideal choice for children's rooms.

Reviews

Bamboo carpets have won the hearts of the people of all countries thanks to their numerous merits. Consumers noted ease of care and almost unlimited scope. Product prices cause admiring reviews, as well as a variety of colors and protection against parasites. Even the disadvantage noted above (the severity of certain types of carpet) does not reduce the enthusiasm of users. It is impossible not to agree with the fact that nationwide love and popularity is fully deserved - bamboo carpets are unique in absolutely all respects.
