Wooden fence: beautiful design ideas fencing

 Wooden fence: beautiful design ideas fencing

The hut is strong constipated, and the courtyard is a fence. Well, when the neighbor is close, and the fence is low. Without a fence and a constipation you will not be saved from the thief. Without pillars and the fence is not worth it. The higher the fences, the better the neighbors.

Only a few proverbs indicate that great attention was paid to the fences since ancient times. As time goes by, technologies and building materials are changing, but the desire to protect your site with wooden material does not pass. What is the reason for such a love for wooden fences, how to make a beautiful wooden fence with your own hands - let's try to figure it out.

Special features

In central Russia, wood has always been considered the most popular building material. Its accessibility made it possible to build huts and baths, to make furniture and dishes even to rather poor people. Another thing - the place where the tree - is a luxury. In this case, a wooden fence is a sign of prosperity of the owner of the house:

  • Thus, the first feature of using wood to create a fence is the tradition based on accessibility.
  • The second feature is the demonstration of wealth or own skills.
  • An important factor in the use of such fences is practicality: for example, you can put the simplest fence to protect livestock, and if necessary, dismantle it and move it to a new pasture.
  • Sustainability is another feature. The bench, placed under the fence, will allow you to enjoy the aroma of essential oils, emitted by boards or slats. A tree will never be hot or cold like metal. It perfectly absorbs, unlike stone, most of the street sounds.
  • If necessary, in most cases, you can replace the fragment of the fence or repair the existing one.
  • Restricting a large perimeter (for example, a private house with a garden) is a costly business if you install a stone or metal fence. But braided, made with their own hands, can do for free.

Summarizing all the above, we can name two main functions of a wooden fence:

  • protection of the territory and households;
  • decorative design.

At the same time he can protect:

  • the house and the entire plot;
  • only outbuildings with a pen for animals;
  • only front garden;
  • flower bed or flower garden.

According to the degree of penetration of the look a wooden fence is:

  • deaf;
  • translucent;
  • transparent.

Advantages and disadvantages

Indeed, this fence has a lot of advantages compared with other materials:

  • comfortable temperature of wooden elements at any time of the year and day;
  • the possibility of self-production and installation without guest craftsmen and sophisticated tools;
  • huge space for decor;
  • the choice of color depends solely on the desire of the owner, not the manufacturer;
  • the ability to apply an unusual geometry and shape in general;
  • It goes well with stone and brick, metal and concrete, mesh and waste material.

It would seem that there are no flaws. But this is not the case: a wooden fence requires constant care. But if it is done regularly, it will delight with its beauty for many years.

Service life will depend on the climate zone and soil quality.

Kinds

Before the construction of the necessary site fences, the owner must answer a few questions:

  • what function should the fence do;
  • what height he will have;
  • he will be deaf or transparent;
  • how it will open;
  • whether additional materials will be used (brick, stone, etc.);
  • what will be the pillars (metal, logs, bricks);
  • what kind of wood will be used for pillars and spans;
  • whether the help of specialists is required;
  • what material costs you can count on.

After analyzing all the answers, you can choose one of the types (or combine them):

  • Herringbone. Also, such a fence has the name of a ladder or an American. From a distance, the surface resembles a deaf siding. Upon closer inspection, you can see that there are gaps between the boards at an angle. This kind of custom design will protect the site from roadside dust, but will allow air flow through. A strong wind will not damage the fence.
  • Classic option - it is a vertical or horizontal tightly fitted canvas. It can be based on a brick or stone foundation or only on wooden, metal, brick or stone pillars. Such a fence is suitable for a private house or cottage, and to give, that is, for those who want to leave their private life as such.
  • Scourge - the most emotionally warm view of the fence. It was invented so long ago that now no longer remember exactly when. It is still considered commonplace with the Slavic peoples. But lately it is often used as a decorative element for low fences. At the same time, they make deaf high fences - braids, which look amazing in combination with other materials.
  • Barrage ranch style has long ceased to be only American. Another thing is style. In the usual version, such a fence also serves to create an obstacle for animals. But there are also beautiful options for fencing of adjoining territories.

We must be prepared for the fact that this fence will not hide from prying eyes. Yes, and it is suitable for a small section of the fence, perhaps the front garden.

  • Lattice was once considered an unusual fence. Crossed at an angle of 45 degrees, the slats make the structure very airy. Vine-like plants and grapes will curl perfectly along it. Over time, the transparent grille can turn into a living opaque hedge. Such sections, interspersed with braided or deaf fence, look even more unusual.
  • Palisade appeared, perhaps, at the same time as the fence, but it was used to protect the entire village. The strong and strong deaf protection will reliably protect from uninvited guests. Especially if the vertical stakes or logs have a pointed upper edge. The durability of such a fence will give the foundation and brick (stone) pillars. But there is a lighter version of the palisade - bamboo. It serves not so long, but it is much easier to mount it. Moreover, modern manufacturers offer rolled ready-made fence.
  • Fence - one of the most popular species. So much so that they are now releasing a metal picket fence. This is a universal fence of different heights and width of shtaketin. They are easy and quick to fasten to wood sticks. If the wooden canvases are located close to each other, then from the site you will see those passing, but from the street you can only see what is happening in the courtyard by stopping.For the decoration of such a fence using paint, varnish. It is made carved and multi-level, combined with other materials.

It looks quite unusual shtaketnik without support posts and crossbars. Such a fence is also called a palisade, but still the essence is not in the name, but in aesthetic and functional attractiveness. Recently gaining popularity horizontal shtaketnik as more economical and easy to install.

  • Chess - a mixture of picket fence, picket fence and classic fence. In fact, it is a picket fence, but nailed in two rows (from the street and the courtyard) in such a way that there is no gap between the boards and the fence becomes deaf. In this case, both sides are facial. In order to protect personal space from gaze and harassment, it is made of wider shtaketin.

Color solutions

Once wooden fences were not painted at all. And even now the village picket fence, enclosing the usual backyard garden, is hardly exposed to paintwork materials. Nevertheless, the fence in front of the house, the front garden is always trying to improve.

Color solutions for this choose the most different.Starting from varnishing, so as not to deprive the tree of the pattern given by nature. This method can give larch the color of cedar, and pine - the color of the nut. For the same purpose, as well as for protection against insects, different stains and other impregnating substances are used. This option will bring the color of the fence to the color of the pillars, the foundation, the gate, the house.

Wooden picket fence, trellis and even a fence are covered with multi-colored paints. Particularly interesting is the picket fence in the form of colored pencils. Such a playground fencing will protect against road dust, street debris and strong winds.

If the house was painted, then it is logical to cover the fence with paint, creating a single ensemble of the entire manor. To do this, you can use the patterns of flowers, animals, plant ornaments. Sometimes two colors are used for this: for the background and the pattern. Moreover, patterned drawings are often painted in white. In other cases, draw real pictures on the facade of the house and the fence.

But still, the tree is often left its appearance. After all, it is for naturalness, warmth and naturalness it is appreciated.

Decor

In addition to paints and varnishes, there are many other ways of decorating wooden fences. Before you dwell on any kind of decor, You can look at 3D samples on the Internet to see the fence "live" from different angles and in different material:

  • Some types of fencing themselves are the decor of the fence. For example, a lattice or braid, chess or a log palisade.
  • The felts burned at the stake or using a burner not only get rid of insects and their larvae, but also become a real designer find in the design of a Russian manor, a predatory harbor or the kingdom of Berendey.
  • The use of stone and brick will give solidity, durability of the whole structure. But it is also an excellent decorating technique, since such fences look very beautiful.
  • Metal is not only reliable protection for the fence itself, but also a beautiful element of decor. Forged elements will give an aesthetically appealing look and reliability of wooden linen.
  • Old fence can be updated and non-standard way. If it has not been coated with varnish for a long time, then it will be difficult to do it: it will absorb an incredible amount of paints and varnishes, but at the same time it will not have the proper look. You can hide this major drawback by using overhead decorative elements: flower pots, curling vertical greenery, birdhouses,old waste materials in the form of flat toys, pictures, etc. The fence itself, of course, will not save, but for some time will remove its dismantling and installation of a new fence.
  • Also transform the old fence will help photocell. This modern decorative material will help to hide the shortcomings of any fence. It is only necessary to choose the right material and photo pattern.
  • Log saw cuts are a very beautiful decor option. With it, you can turn a transparent fence into a deaf, hide holes in the place of damaged shtaketin.
  • Wattle can zone a place of rest in the country. If, however, woven plants or artificial sunflowers are woven into it, then such a place is styled as a Ukrainian hospitable cottage.

Design style

Looking at the photos of various types of fences, you can make sure that the modern design is minimalistic and urbanistic. Is it worth it to apply to the wooden fence - the decision of the owner. But, of course, you should pay attention to the new trends:

  • For example, a combination of wood and gabions with pergon. Metal cells 25-30 cm wide, filled with stones, pebbles are pergon.Such cells can act as a support for the tree, the foundation or a full-fledged section of the fence. Gabion is the same metal mesh with a stone, but it may have the shape of a parallelepiped larger than pergon. And maybe, in general, be any other form. Figures - gabions can be fence sections or perform decorative (and at the same time protective) function at the gate or wicket.
  • The modern paling is not at all colored pencils from slab, but a monumental construction from a bar, made in the urban style. The combination of granite and marble with this type of wood creates a feeling of power and strength.
  • Perhaps the mixture of wood, metal and bottle glass can be attributed to eclecticism. In this fence, a minimum of wood and a maximum of transparency. The vintage door reminds the owner of the collection time for such material for its fence. An unusual way of combining wood and glass made this fencing exclusive.
  • If you want to have a solid wooden fence, then you can think about the combination of wood with stone or brick. Rustic fence is naturalness, massiveness, reliability. American country style is less rough, but no less reliable.Solid fence using brick pillars will serve its owners for a long time.
  • The combination of metal and wood will make the fence durable. Such a modern fence can perform only a protective function or be a true product.

Wood is such a comfortable material that it can withstand a combination with any material. The main thing is to turn on the imagination and choose the style of the future fence.

How to do it yourself?

The quality of the fence depends on the type of wood. Pine due to excreted resins less exposed to climatic influences. And Siberian larch is a solid material capable of withstanding heavy loads. In addition, from contact with water, it improves its quality.

Also use oak, aspen, ash, alder, mulberry. It is not recommended to make a birch fence: it is short-lived and quickly cracks. There are original tree species, designed for a large pocket or a reliable bank card. We will name only a few: Abashi, Akazhu, Bangkirai, Kasai, Kekatong, Merbau, Tiger Tree.

The next item after choosing the style and breed of wood will be the calculation of the material. It is clear that for this you need to accurately represent the project according to the drawing. But still, let's try to calculate the number of shtaetin on a deaf or translucent fence.

For this:

  1. Measure the length of the future fence. For example, 50 m (5000 cm) when using boards 10 cm wide.
  2. Calculate the number of fence for the deaf fence: 5000 cm / 10 cm = 500 boards.
  3. Calculation on a translucent fence: to the width of the fence add the width of the gap between the boards. For example: 10 cm (shtaketina) + 10 cm (gap) = 20 cm. Therefore, such a fence will need: 5000 cm / 20 cm = 250 boards.

If the price in a store is indicated per cubic meter, then in this case the thickness of one board is multiplied by the length and width. The result is multiplied by the number of boards. This will be the number of cubic meters.

For example, the thickness of the fence is 2 cm, length - 200 cm, width - 10 cm. Dimensions must be converted to meters: 0.02 x 2 x0.10 = 0.004. The result obtained multiplied by the number of boards that are needed for the fence: 0.004x500 = 2 cubic meters of picket fence must be purchased for such a fence.

The number of boards per cubic meter is counted in reverse order. In this case, in all cases of calculation it is necessary to provide a reserve for an unforeseen event.

For crossbars and pillars, the material must be carefully selected. If the fence is translucent, then the distance between the pillars is done at 2 m.For a blind fence, a distance of 1.5 m is determined. The depth of dropping depends on the soil, usually it is 1-1.5 m.

As a rule, at the fence 2 crossbar. Consequently, the length of the fence should be multiplied by 2 plus up to 5 m of stock - this will be the need for crossbars for the fence from the fence.

All other options for installing wooden fencing are so individual that they need to be calculated independently. Having decided on the total amount of all construction material, you need to take care of the tools. Depending on the type of fence, this set will also be different. Most likely, you will need the following tools:

  • saw, hacksaw;
  • jigsaw;
  • ax;
  • shovel;
  • roulette;
  • hammer;
  • level;
  • rope, twine;
  • earth drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • electric drill;
  • scrap.

In addition, you will need construction materials:

  • shtaketnik, boards (it is better to saturate them with a protective compound before installation);
  • cross bars, crossbeams;
  • support columns;
  • marking pegs;
  • sand, gravel;
  • cement;
  • galvanized fasteners (nails, screws, hinges before installation, too, covered with linseed oil).

The entire sequence of work will consist of several stages:

  • mounting support;
  • fastening of crossbars (if the fence is vertical);
  • sheathing frame.

Installation

There are 2 fundamentally different mounting options: with or without foundation installation. The first option is more time consuming, but more durable. The fence on the second option is much faster and easier. Consider it exactly:

  • Territory preparation. Since the boards will touch the ground with the lower edge, the area should be cleared of grass, stones and irregularities.
  • With the help of pointed wooden pegs 60 cm long, they mark the territory according to a previously drawn up plan. The distance between the pegs is the distance between the future supports. The pegs are looped with a rope, which is sufficiently tight. At this point, you need to check how smoothly the markup is made.
  • The pegs are taken out one by one, and in their place they drill holes for supports with a depth of 50 cm (for a bed or a low fence) up to 1.5 m (for a solid massive fence).
  • Props dig into the ground. There are several installation methods: blocking, blocking, concreting. But before using any one, you need to take care of the wooden support, namely: process it with a special compound, wrap with roofing material,cement in a metal cylinder. All this will save the pillar from rotting. Install the supports with a plumb line. Usually, the bottom of the pit is sprinkled with sand and tamped tightly, then a pole is installed, covered with rubble and tamped again. The sequence is repeated, with each layer of sand moistened with water.
  • A nail is driven into the top of each pillar, after which all the nails are tightened with a rope. In this way, align the pillars.
  • Prozhiliny fasten nails to the supports. Attachment height may be different. Most often done in the following way: the height of the fence is conventionally divided into 3 parts. The bottom bar is nailed at a height of 1/3, the top one at a height of 2/3. It is important to choose the right nails: too short will not hold the crossbar, too large diameter will lead to cracking of the wood.
  • Mount shtaketnika deaf or translucent way. Align the top edge. Giving it a decorative design with a saw and jigsaw.
  • Protection of support posts with caps (plastic, metal, wood, glass).
  • Impregnation and painting. If the boards were installed without preliminary treatment, they should be soaked with linseed oil or a protective compound. Make it necessary in 2 layers.

Then the fence is painted.

Paint should be chosen for outdoor use.Or, to preserve the naturalness of the tree, prefer varnish.

Fastening methods

If the usual methods of fastening are not satisfied, then you can find more interesting solutions:

  • Instead of shtaketin use slab. Such material will decorate the fence in a rustic antique style. A round log, on the contrary, looks very modern.
  • You can bend the boards in such a way that you get an Austrian braid - a double-sided fence with minimal gaps.
  • You can use Planken. This is a kind of larch front planks, in which all corners are beveled or rounded. Due to this, the boards are attached not close to each other, but with microdistance. This method of fastening planken does not allow the boards to swell from moisture and deform.
  • Creating wooden siding. For this, the boards are fixed horizontally, starting from the bottom, with an overlap of about 25 mm.
  • Creating horizontal blinds. To do this, in the supports make notches into which the boards are inserted at a slight angle. This method will almost close the review, but will significantly save the amount of material. In addition, it is ideal for places of strong winds, as the fence will not be exposed to wind loads.
  • Fence can be mounted diagonally.The complexity of this method consists in the constant measurement of the angle at the beginning of installation. But to look such a fence would be great, especially if its upper edge is left in the form of a paling. With the diagonal method, the fence may also be deaf or translucent.
  • You can use the method of chess, which has already been said above. Such a fence can be vertical or horizontal. In this case, the length of shtaketin may be the same or different (a more complex option, but also more interesting).

If through the crossbars you miss very densely thin, unprocessed birch branches, trunks, then such a fence will be cheap, but it will protect you just as well.

In addition, there are ways of mounting, when the boards are mounted between the supporting pillars or hiding the pillars. The first case will require more time and accuracy.

If the pillars are brick or stone, then use other methods. It is possible sectional installation spans between the pillars. This work is done with an assistant. It is more laborious, but the fence will last for a long time.

Care Tips

To make a wooden fence for a long time pleased with its appearance, you need:

  • prior to installation, impregnate the wood with antiseptic;
  • check the absence of anthills at the site of the future fence;
  • install a protective visor not only on the supporting pillars, but also over the spans (if it does not fit into the chosen style, then you can try to secure the fence with a glass or polycarbonate visor);
  • timely get rid of grass along the fence, it will reduce the level of humidity;
  • after installation, cover the whole tree with a primer, this is done only in dry weather on dry wood;
  • once every 2-3 years to paint it.

It is good to protect the wooden fence from fungus and cracking with Swedish paint or yacht varnish.

Many before installation watered the boards with hot linseed oil.

Since the untreated board loses moisture under the action of ultraviolet rays, it is impregnation that neutralizes this disadvantage. Many use special UV hardeners for impregnation, which are sold in hardware stores. They process the boards several times on the primer so that the impregnation penetrates as deep as possible into the wood. After that, the tree is coated with paint or varnish.

Unlike drying oil and varnish, Swedish paint is a home-made composition of:

  • 250 g of copper sulphate;
  • 250 g iron minium;
  • 250 g of salt;
  • 230 ml of drying oil or linseed oil;
  • 570 g of rye flour;
  • 4.5 liters of water.

According to these proportions, you can make any amount of paint, but remember: the paint thickens very quickly, so either you need to cook in small portions, or paint it in several hands. Mix consumption: 210-270 ml per square meter.

This recipe will give the wood a golden color. To obtain a different color, red lead is replaced by ocher, hydrogen peroxide, or another colored component.

Prepare the paint in this way:

  • boiled flour paste and 3 liters of water;
  • to remove the lumps, the substance is passed through a sieve;
  • the filtered glue is put on fire again, adding salt and vitriol;
  • you must constantly stir the mixture, waiting for the vitriol is completely dissolved;
  • continuing the stirring, a little drying oil is added, then water (the liquid composition should be homogeneous consistency).

Paint applied in two layers. Do not forget about metal fasteners. They also need to be covered with special solutions from rust. Loose metal parts are reinforced with padded keys.

But during operation, the fence may require not only preventive painting, but also repair. If preventive work against rye did not help, then the metal parts simply change. If we are talking about wooden elements, then it is necessary to determine the degree of wear.

If loosened, but not rotted post-support, then it carefully dig in about 20 cm in depth and the same width. Leveling the support vertically, the pit is filled with broken brick and poured with cement. For a few days, put a backup. The reason for this game support - insufficient depth of the pit during installation and violation of the installation technology.

If the pillar has rotted in its lower part, then it is possible to replace the whole or its lower part. It’s probably easier to replace the entire pillar. But if this is not possible, proceed as follows: the pole is dug to the side and sawed off the rotten part. Pre-prepare the concrete support instead of the rotted part. In the upper part of the drilled holes for bolts.

Concrete pile is installed in the pit, galvanized bolts are inserted into the holes. The whole construction is coated with antiseptic. A wooden pole is put on the bolts, leveled along the slope and fixed with struts.Rubble or broken bricks are poured into the pit, and all of this is packed tightly. A few days later, the spacers are removed.

If the picket pads have rotted or have fallen into disrepair, they should be replaced. After dismantling, the repair site is treated with an antiseptic and dried, only after that install a new board.

The climate of any region of the world will affect wooden fences: somewhere too much rainfall, causing wood to rot; the hot sun drains it and leads to cracking. Dusty sandstorms rip paint off.

All this warns the owners of wooden fences: only timely care will extend its service life.

Beautiful examples

Above there were many examples of how with the help of various types of wooden fence you can decorate the dacha or a country house, front garden or flower bed. But there are so many beautiful examples that pay attention to at least a few more:

  • To put such a wonderful fence, you do not need a lot of money. Only a jigsaw, sandpaper, a knife for carving and the desire of the master to make a real masterpiece from a simple fence. And let the fence seem a battered time, only a real craftsman knows that a fairy tale lives behind him.
  • The croaker is an off-spec board, so it costs quite a bit. The more valuable such a fence.After sanding and processing, the usual croaker turned into not only a resting place, but also a kind of entrance to another interesting and unusual world.
  • Such a fence will require hard work. The board, which, at first glance, it seems not edged, is hardly such. Careful work with a jigsaw, grinding machine, coupled with the work of a bricklayer makes this barrier an exclusive, worthy of the highest praise.
  • A wooden fence combined with a stone-metal gabion makes it necessary to stop, in order not only to look at this unusual sight, but also to reflect on deep philosophical topics. In our life, everything is side by side in a strange way: a warm tree with cold metal, a soft board with a hard stone.
  • This fence, as well as the house on the plot, is protected from all evils for a long time: strong stone pillars, stone foundations, Swedish paint on a chess table. A very caring owner took care not only of his property, but also of his own time. After all, such a fence for a long time does not require repair.
  • But if the previous version is very expensive, then this one is very budget.Such a fence can not be fully called wooden, rather, combined. And it is subject to every non-livable owner. With a large number of inserted branches, you can achieve good protection for your site.
  • This fence is a symbol of creative thinking. On the one hand, this is the most reliable protection, on the other hand, a sufficient overview and a way to talk to your neighbors on the move without opening the gate. The use of waste material makes this fence even more valuable.
  • The article mentions many different variations of the fence, but this one is special. So organically, it looks soft on the site. At the same time perfectly zoned the entire territory. Here you can drink tea with a company or hide from everyone and sit in silence. The unusual shape of the spiral makes the desire to get to the center even more.
  • To make such a horizontal non-standard chess, you need to think completely non-standard. Different width and length of the boards, the gaps where they, apparently, should not be. Beautiful, unexpected, interesting.
  • Even if you look at it very carefully, it’s still difficult for a simple viewer to understand how this fence is made. It is convex, as if woven.Crossbeam as if passes boards through itself. Yes, and the kind of burnt wood makes the fence quite unusual.
  • And this combined fence again breaks stereotypes: the rounded-off habitual top and the completely unusual shape of the combination of the two materials. Definitely beautiful. Even such interesting colors.
  • Only one thing can be said about such a fence: a fairy tale lives here. And he came up with her real master of his craft.
  • The value of this fence is that it adorns not the elite cottage settlement on Rublevka, but an ordinary village street. And if the owners of this non-standard house and Austrian braids created such beauty in an ordinary village, it means that there were no more men in the Russian land.
  • Of course, in a couple of years such a fence will have a different look, but with what love it was made. The ideal height, the selection of plates and even the "little rug" before entering the territory.
