 Features of mounting a turbo-deflector for ventilation

Adequate ventilation of the room is necessary for its long and trouble-free operation. In addition, properly arranged air exchange will relieve from excess moisture and, as a result, the appearance of fungus, which is unsafe for human health. In difficult situations will save the installation of the deflector - a device that provides a constant flow of clean air.

Special features

Turbo deflector for ventilation is used not only in apartments and private houses, but in industrial, warehouse and agricultural buildings. In the latter, this device helps to remove gases and excess moisture. In industrial environments, deflectors significantly reduce energy costs.Rotation baffles are often installed in swimming pools, sports complexes and municipal institutions. Turbocharged models equip garages and cellars.

    The advantages of these devices include:

    • low power consumption (especially rotary models that use wind power to rotate the turbine);
    • closed and movable upper part of the deflector eliminates the ingress of debris, birds and rodents, as well as precipitation into the ventilation shaft;
    • durable manufacturing material (galvanized steel or aluminum);
    • rotating, the device discharges the air around it, thereby not allowing the room to heat up in the heat;
    • removes condensate, not allowing it to penetrate into the insulation and finishing materials, increasing their service life;
    • the amount of ice is significantly reduced in the cold season;
    • reliability of the device, due to the strength of fastening all the details, it is not afraid of wind and bad weather;
    • attractive appearance, due to which it can use the unit in any buildings, combined with almost any facade;
    • safe for health and ecology device;
    • the service life of the deflector is at least 15 years.

    The only drawback of this device is that in the absence of wind the turbine will cease to operate. First, this will lead to the fact that the deflector will not work in full force, and secondly, in the cold season the system will freeze and stop functioning.

    Principle of operation

    The deflector working without electricity consists of the following parts:

    • cylinder;
    • diffuser;
    • an umbrella (prevents ingress of moisture and moisture from the atmosphere into the chimney);
    • ring baffle.

    The classic version of the installation of the deflector is the installation of the device on the pipe to remove smoke. This allows you to create the necessary obstacle for air masses. In the process of operation of this mechanism, the air is divided into a large number of microflows, which have a low speed. Due to this, the wind flows capture the smoke coming out of the pipe, and increases the thrust several times. The deflector also prevents the penetration of carbon monoxide back into the room.

    Attention! The mechanism of deflector operation described above is possible only with the proper installation of this device. Therefore, before installation, it is necessary to carefully study the recommendations for installation, and in case of difficulties, contact the professionals. So you can avoid a number of problems, such as reverse thrust.There are several types of turbo deflectors. Their design directly depends on what vent exit will be used for installation.

    Most often you can find such models of the device.

    1. Classic round, square, rectangular.
    2. Tsagi. The nozzle of this type is complemented by a screen having the shape of a cylinder. The device itself is “packed” with a conical end. The diameter of the duct can vary from 10 to 125 cm. A special screen reliably protects against reverse thrust.
    3. Grigorovich. This is the most common option, which is used for stove heating and for organizing proper ventilation. It has a classic performance and is mounted on a truncated cone nozzle. It can be either purchased at the store or made by yourself.
    4. Rotary. It has a nozzle with a spherical finish. It differs from the classical models of deflectors by the presence of blades and a turbine, due to which additional thrust force is generated. This move increases the design efficiency by 50%. The diameter of the pipe on which these models are installed can vary from 20 to 90 cm.It is used on exhaust ducts in both residential and industrial premises, on chimneys, funnels, for ventilation of under-roof layers.
    5. Double n-shaped. This model has an unusual shape of the pipe. It allows you to increase the efficiency and technical characteristics of ventilation at least 2 times. It has the shape of a letter of two tubes, between which there is a jumper in which the tube is embedded, which connects the deflector with the hood.

    In addition to the main function, the deflector can replace the ventilation turbine and can be used in conditions of natural ventilation.

    Calculation and drawings

    If it is not possible to purchase a ready-made device at a store, then with a lot of desire and free time, you can make the unit yourself. If you have experience in carrying out such work, then the manufacture of the deflector can take only about 10 hours. This is a long history, since you will first need to make calculations, then make a drawing, and only then proceed to the assembly. Some easier to buy ready-made baffle with a turbine in a specialized store (their price starts from 3.5 thousand rubles).But if you still decided to make the mechanism yourself, then the actions will look like this. First, prepare the necessary tools and materials:

    • thin cardboard to create a layout for the drawing and calculations;
    • galvanized or stainless steel sheet;
    • air duct flange;
    • screws, nuts and rivets;
    • bearing unit (it is better to purchase an existing one or manufacture it yourself from 2 couplings and a furniture tube of a suitable size);
    • drill;
    • pliers;
    • glass jar;
    • scissors for metal.

    It is necessary to draw and make a model of the prepared cardboard in order to verify the calculations and not to redo the product. Scissors for metal cut a circle of the required diameter. Cut the required number of blades (usually 20-25, not more). They should have a rectangular shape. Bend the workpiece blades under approximately the same radius. This work is done exclusively by hand, so small errors are possible, since not all parts will have the same bend.

    It is necessary to bend metal by means of a glass jar. Those corners of the plates that will be attached to the coupling must be bent at a right angle.In this part of the drill and drill for metal holes for hardware are organized. The blades attach to the edges of the circle. On the product is mounted bearing unit. Deflector do-it-yourself is ready.

    Installation

    Installation of the deflector is as follows.

    1. Install the inlet. For its fastening (on bolts or rivets) the same number of holes is drilled in it and in the pipe.
    2. With the help of hose clamps or lower brackets, the diffuser funnel is attached.
    3. The deflector cap is put on the diffuser on the truncated side with clamps.

    It is worth paying attention to the fact that not all work will be conveniently carried out at height. So, it is better to carry out the assembly of the cap and the device itself in advance, and on the roof it’s already up to you to do the actual installation.

    At installation of the deflector it is necessary to adhere to the following recommendations which are given by professionals.

    1. You can install a turbine on a straight or sloped roof, chimney and ventilation outlets. It is necessary to choose a place depending on the purpose for which the deflector will be used.
    2. A turbine with a diameter of 31.5 cm is suitable for under-roof ventilation.
    3. On the sloped roof deflector is installed at the highest point.When mounted on a flat roof, be sure to take into account the height of the snow cover and install the device above it. In any case, it is not recommended to make the deflector level below 18 cm.
    4. In order to regulate heat loss in cold time, it is possible to install special valves (in residential buildings) or regulating air intakes (for warehouses and production).

    When installing the deflector on the chimney should take into account the fact that it increases its length.

    Owner reviews

    Most people who have installed deflectors in their homes or agricultural buildings, note many advantages. It is possible to avoid reverse thrust and fully normalize the air exchange in the room. The device effectively removes harmful gases (carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide) from the room and prevents their return. Some negative reviews are associated with errors during installation, as well as violations of the operating rules of the deflector. Turbo deflector allows efficient ventilation of almost any room. Its long service life makes this device reliable, and the absence of problems with air fully justifies the cost of purchasing and installing the device.
