Channel rectangular fans: what is needed and how to install?

The rectangular duct fan is an important element of the duct system. About what it consists of, what types it is divided into and what it is - this article.

What it is?

Channel fans are installed in the ventilation ducts to improve the operation of the ventilation system. It is they who "drive" the air through the ducts. The main part of the product is the engine. With it, the fan itself is working.

Another important component of the duct fan is the housing. As a rule, it is made of galvanized steel. The remaining parts include the blades that each similar mechanism has, the impeller, the impeller (the point of attachment of the blades), the grill to protect the entire mechanism and the thermal protection system.Sometimes a check valve can additionally be installed to redirect air flow.

How does it work?

Fan operation begins with the fact that the impeller creates a reduced pressure area during rotation. Low pressure causes air to be sucked through the grill. After which the rotation of the blades increases the air pressure. Under this high pressure air flow moves through the channel. It is important to know that the safety system of thermal contacts breaks the circuit at too high temperatures.

Kinds

Channel fans come in a variety of sizes and sections. There are several of the most common types of sectional shape.

  • Rectangular section. It is the most common and is installed in ventilation systems much more often than other types.
  • Round section. Such fans are mounted in round channels of ventilation systems.
  • Square section. Characteristics of such models do not give the most flattering. They are difficult to install, besides they are often very cumbersome.

Another important classification parameter for such fans is design. By design, they are divided into 4 groups.

  • Radial. In such constructions in the radial direction and ejected due to centrifugal force.
  • Axial. The air moves along them with plenty of blades as in an ordinary home fan.
  • Diagonal. Combines the mechanism of the first and second types. Designed for industrial premises.
  • Diametrically. They have a special elongated shape that allows air to pass through small ventilation structures. Installed inside equipments.

How to choose?

Choosing the right fan depends on a number of factors. among which are considered the main power and type of construction.

  • Power. First you need to calculate how much air will need to be ventilated. This figure depends on the size of the room. The calculation can be done using a special online calculator.
  • Form and material. There are no explanations here, if there is a ventilation system with a square cross section in the room, then the fan must be purchased according to its parameters.
  • Air flow rate As a rule, there is enough for residential premises and speeds from 11 to 14 m / s. For production, this value should be greater. At smaller values, it can be argued that ventilation may not cope with its task.
  • Noise level. You may notice that many of the characteristics of the fan are interrelated with each other. Thus, the noise from the fan depends on its power and air velocity. It is obvious that for an apartment it is best to choose silent models, and for industrial premises - powerful ones, which do not always have a low noise level.
  • The level of protection of materials from moisture and dust. Today, this problem is easily solved, it is enough just to treat the surface of each fan detail with special solutions against mold and moisture.

On average, the price of such fans varies from 500 to 7 thousand rubles. The main thing when choosing a fan is safety and quality.

The nuances of choosing a channel fan are described in detail in the video below.
