Installing a bathroom sink with a cabinet: how to do it right?

Nowadays, when making repairs in the bathroom, many people prefer to use each centimeter of the existing area in the most functional way, since in most apartment buildings this space has rather limited dimensions. In order to compactly and discreetly place in the bathroom all available washing and cleaning products, a good solution would be to install a washbasin in the bathroom.

Criterias of choice

In addition to providing additional space for the location of sanitary facilities, this design allows you to hide the often unsightly view of the connected pipes and siphon, which immediately gives the room tidiness.

Plumbing stores offer a huge selection of these accessorieswhich may differ both in the type of design, and in style, the material of the outer coating, the shape and color scheme.

Competently chosen cabinet under the sink will harmoniously fit into the overall look of the bathroom and give it a finished and attractive look.

Choosing a bedside table under the sink, you need to focus on the size of the room, the appearance and the existing interior. For example, the presence of an oval wall mirror and smooth forms of the bathroom itself or a jacuzzi will not be completely combined with a stand of rigorous, rectangular dimensions. In the classic design of a small bathroom, a cabinet with right angles will look quite natural and unobtrusively complete the overall picture.

Also, when choosing such an important accessory, it is necessary to take into account that the bathroom belongs to rooms with high humidity. and the possibility of a sharp temperature drop. Thus, all components of the cupboard under the sink, including the material of manufacture, the inner and outer cover, the mounted fittings in the form of handles or decorative elements, must be resistant to moisture, fungus or even possible mold.Plastic panels used for finishing the pedestals under the sink, as a rule, do not react to such external factors, the wooden structures should be treated accordingly, and the hinged accessories should be made of at least a metal with a chrome-plated surface, thus avoiding cracking and corrosion.

Depending on the size of the free space, it is advisable to choose a cabinet with the maximum possible number of shelves and internal pockets, which allows you to hide all existing cleaning and hygiene products from prying eyes and always maintain the required order easily without spending much time.

Attach the design with your own hands is quite possibleif you follow our recommendations. You need to fasten securely, so that it served you for a long time. Hanging the bedside table is necessary after installing the washbasin.

Types of pedestals under the sink

Depending on the type of existing bathroom (separate or combined), the size of the bathroom and how to install the sink, there are five types of thumbs under the sink, namely:

  • suspended structure;
  • corner stand;
  • cabinet under the sink with a lower base;
  • pedestal under the sink with legs;
  • floor stand

As a rule, cabinets are sold complete with a sink, however, there are exclusive expensive options when this piece of furniture is made, assembled and assembled individually, based on the requirements of a particular customer.

Where to place?

Taking into account the fact that in any bathroom, whether it is a new apartment or an existing housing, there are connections for sewage and water pipes for hot and cold water, it is recommended to install a sink with a pedestal or in the place of the previous one (during repair) or near the water supply pipe (in a new apartment).

In any case, you must first carefully measure the room. taking into account the further planned location of all other items of furniture and possible household appliances, as well as, depending on the type of cabinet to be installed, to pay attention to the material of the supporting structure and to the floor and walls.

It is necessary to place structures where they will not interfere.

When mounting the pedestals, you should take into account the fact that the greatest load falls on the attachment points with the wall due to its large weight (including filling). Thus, it is desirable to install suspended pedestals for the sink only on durable finishing materials, such as ceramic tiles on a concrete or brick base. Otherwise, at any time the whole structure may fall under its own weight, which will lead to costly repairs later on.

Floor cabinets are not recommended to be installed on the soft floor of the bathroom, as over time, damage caused by its weight will be inevitable.

The curbstone with the lower base should not be placed on heated floors, in order to avoid heating up of the construction details and their further deformation.

The pipes coming out of the wall must be properly connected to the cabinet, as they should not come into contact with the internal elements of the furniture, namely with the end surfaces of the existing shelves, which is achieved by preliminary measuring the distance from the coupling joints of the supplied pipes to the floor covering. For proper installation of the bedside table under the sink, the inlet pipe must be above the middle shelf of the pedestal.

Similarly, should be combined and sewer otvodku. If the sewage drain is located in the floor, a hole is made in the lower part of the pedestal through which the drain barrier will connect the sink siphon and the sewer.

In such situations, it is advisable to give preference to the floor stand, as this will hide the plumbing layout and give the bathroom a neat look.

Installation

Whereas, in the standard version, the sink and bollard are included, They include the following components:

  • directly sink itself (depending on the type of construction - floor, suspended, built-in or consignment note);
  • plumbing equipment (hot and cold water supply (flexible or rigid hoses), mixer, sewer connection pipe, metal pipes, siphon);
  • fasteners (seals (tape or tow), brackets, bolts, screws, anchor screws, washers with nuts, dowels of various designs, depending on the type of wall (for drywall, concrete pavement, brick or wood), gaskets and silicone sealants);
  • bedside table.

Regardless of the design,any shell with a cabinet can be installed and fixed independently by anyone with minimal skills in handling tools and presenting the expected amount of work.

For proper and successful installation is required to carry the following set of tools.

  • Drill with perforator. In some cases, you can do with just a drill, but the presence of a perforator is preferable, since when drilling a wall of concrete or brick, the effort involved is several times smaller, and the quality of the drilled holes remains at a height.
  • Screwdriver. When choosing, pay attention to the type of battery and the rated torque.
  • Screwdriver. It is used in cases when it is not possible to tighten the necessary screws with the help of other devices due to their inaccessibility.
  • Circular saw. It is necessary, as mentioned above, when connecting pipes for hot and cold water to the pedestal and drainage of sewage.
  • Yardstick.
  • A set of wrenches (it is also desirable to have a torque wrench, providing the required tightening force).
  • Measuring ruler with a pencil or marker.
  • Construction level (bubble or electronic).

In the presence of all of the above, to install and properly fix the sink with the cabinet will not be difficult, should only strictly adhere to a specific sequence of actions:

  • to block in the apartment pipes with hot and cold water (usually the corresponding taps are located in the technical closet of the bathroom);
  • pre-mark on the wall or floor installation site and fixing cabinets under the sink. This action will allow to avoid divergence of supplied and discharged water and sewage pipes when connected;
  • drill a hole at the marked level with a drill (or a perforator in the presence of a concrete or brick wall), install suitable dowels in them;
  • Secure the bottom siphon using rubber seals and a corrugated hose before installing the sink.
  • Some also recommend the simultaneous installation of a mixer, this action can be performed at this stage at its discretion. On the one hand, it is easier to install the mixer on an unmounted sink, since in the future it will be difficult to mount from below in the presence of a pedestal.On the other hand, its pre-installation may result in accidental damage to the faucet during installation of the sink. When installing the mixer for the surface of the sink in the countertop or wall, it is required to pre-drill a hole, since it is not initially provided in the sink;
  • Assemble the cabinet (if it was purchased disassembled) using fixing screws, a screwdriver or a torque wrench. Be sure to pay attention to the required tightening force, as the tightened connections become fragile and can later damage the entire structure. In the assembly instructions such information is required, it is necessary to carefully follow it;
  • fasten the sink with the installed siphon and mixer onto the cabinet, necessarily observing the required tightening forces and using a construction level gauge;
  • when installing a floor stand, adjust the required height of the legs according to the markings previously drawn in pencil;
    • after connecting the sink to the cabinet, mark on the last pencil or marker the places for the supply and removal of water pipes, then cut holes of the required diameter with a circular saw (directly in the cabinet);
    • Screw the assembled cabinet with a sink to the wall using a screwdriver and anchor bolts. In the presence of hanging cabinets, it is desirable to additionally seal the joints with silicone sealant;
    • connect the hot water supply system, cold water supply system and sewage through a flexible or rigid connection using connections. If during the installation process there are obstacles in the cabinet itself, it is also necessary to cut the corresponding holes. This item should be paid special attention, it is advisable to consult with a professional plumber, as poor installation can lead not only to possible leaks, but also the appearance of an unpleasant odor from the drain and a significant reduction in water pressure;
    • Install the existing faucet on the sink (if not pre-installed), using rubber seals or a special tape to seal the connections.

    Observing all the above requirements and sequence of actions., you can be sure that the sink with the cabinet is correctly connected, fixed in the required position and will reliably perform its immediate functions for a long time.
