Canopy-arbor: the choice of design

The canopy-gazebo is a very demanded type of garden structures; it can compete in popularity with a terrace. There are different types of such structures, each of which has its own advantages. After reading this article, you will learn about the features of the choice of design, the intricacies of installation work.

Main types

To choose a pergola, you need to take into account your own wishes, financial capabilities and features of a particular summer cottage. Such designs are stationary and portable. Garden pavilions that can be carried are usually collapsible. Most often portable structures are lightweight, their frame is made of plastic or metal. The canopy itself is made from a synthetic material, polyethylene or a fabric of increased strength.

Stationary gazebos often have a significant weight, so they are not moved. In this regard, such structures are less convenient, but they have a longer service life, more reliably protect people from various external influences. Usually such constructions cannot be disassembled.

How to choose a place?

Arbor can be installed where it is very beautiful: for example, at a man-made or natural lake, decorated with flowers of a stone hill. To make the design look more aesthetic, you can plant flowering shrubs next to it, decorate it with climbing plants.

You should not install the structure in the valley. Such a cold place with high humidity will be bad for rest and relaxation.

Constructions

Canopies, gazebos vary in design. There are several options.

  • Semi-closed gazebos. The open aperture of this structure can be closed with a dense material that is resistant to fluid. Another option is glazing.
  • Open constructions. It is possible to make such an arbor as comfortable and more closed as possible using a green hedge.

The roof can be inclined (gable or monopitch), straight, rounded, arched. Visors (inclined roofs) are particularly convenient to use.Rain will not interfere with people who are in the gazebo, since water always flows down the slope.

Important stages

You will need to do the following:

  • First select the place where you will install the gazebo. Then you will need to prepare the surface for installation.
  • Create a foundation frame.
  • Make a roof.

Only high-quality materials and tools should be selected for construction work. Otherwise, it is possible that the design will not be durable.

Building

Construction work should start like this:

  • To establish the supports, dig holes that will be the same distance from each other. They should be quite deep: about one-fourth the height of the pillar. Put there pillows of gravel and rubble, carefully tamp everything.
  • Insert into the recesses of the support. Before this, it will be necessary to apply impregnation on them, which protects the surfaces from fungus and mold. Using the building level and plumb, check whether the supports are installed correctly.
  • Then you will need to make a foundation. Pour the concrete into the pits and wait a few days.

Gable roof

The roof will need to do as follows:

  • Using screws and metal corners, connect the rafters (to make it easier, do it on the ground). Cut the gaps.
  • Pull off the supports by the boards. Rafters will need to be attached to racks-supports. Connect them with each other.
  • Make a crate using a trim board. On it will need to put roofing. The maximum hermetic roof can be made with the help of plastic washers for screws.
  • On the floor you can pour a screed of concrete, put the gravel, put the boards.

So you will create on the basis of the supports stationary canopy. If you want to use this construction as a gazebo, you can create a side crate. Some use similar constructions as car facilities. They are multifunctional and very resistant to various atmospheric influences.

Plastic facilities

Today, many people prefer to create canopies, gazebos made of PVC pipes made of plastic, metal, polypropylene. Such structures are characterized by a long service life, ease, and thus problems with the implementation of installation work occur very rarely. You can make a sliding portable structure.

There are certain disadvantages to PVC pipe designs:

  • The frame of such structures is not very durable.
  • From such gazebos, a rather unpleasant smell emanates, they are toxic.
  • Due to exposure to sunlight, PVC structures can be deformed.

Plastic is a material from which you can create a variety of shapes. You can easily construct structures of various shapes: polygonal, semicircular, rectangular. For coating, you can use polycarbonate, a polymer that differs in density.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate has a lot of advantages. The main advantages of this material:

  • Ease of processing. From it you can get products of various shapes, such material bends easily. It is well suited for creating complex, unusual designs. Such a structure will be a unique highlight of your suburban area, its wonderful decoration.
  • Fire resistance
  • Long service life, durability. Such products are resistant to corrosion (as opposed to metal). They do not need to be treated with agents that protect the surface from mold and fungus (unlike wood).
  • Relatively light weight.

Polycarbonate can be used only when the structure is stationary. This is a rather expensive material, and it can easily be damaged if you disassemble and transfer the arbor.

The frame can be metal, brick, wooden. If you want the structure to be light and small, there is no need to make a heavy foundation. Just place ordinary metal pins in the ground.

It is not recommended to make a polycarbonate roof for the structure where the brazier will be located. In this case, you should choose tile, slate, corrugated roofing, and pipes or metal profiles for the framework. To remove the smoke, you will need to make a pipe. This element in such structures is mandatory. If you do not remove the smoke, you can get poisoned with carbon monoxide in cooking kebabs.

It is recommended to make a strip foundation for a barbecue design, it is rather complicated. To prevent the occurrence of fire, you should install buildings with a stove rather far from the bath of wood or cottage. Shrubs and trees that are close to such a structure should be removed or transplanted to another location.

With a barbecue

To build a gazebo with a barbecue you need in this order:

  • Create a strip foundation. To do this, dig a fairly deep trench around the perimeter (approximately 0.4 m).
  • Make a pillow: put gravel on the bottom. Tamper it, place the reinforcing mesh on the bottom.
  • Using the boards, make the formwork. Pour the concrete. Wait until the foundation is completely dry: it usually takes about a month.
  • With the help of fire-resistant brick erect the furnace. Do this by applying a solution based on red clay.
  • If you want the structure to be presentable, overlay the barbecue with cement mortar or facing brick.

The grill should be built as follows:

  • Create a pedestal for oven accessories and firewood.
  • Build a fire chamber, the furnace.
  • Create a pipe to regulate traction.
  • Carry out decorative lining.

For firewood

Installing the stove, you need to provide a woodpile, where there will be firewood. A pergola for firewood can be easily created by yourself. It will reliably protect them from precipitation. To create such a structure can be quite quickly and without significant monetary expenditure. It is not necessary to make a rectangular gazebo: it can be non-standard, designer.

Metal frame and rectangular shape

Rectangular metal frame structures are different:

  • You can make a brick floor or create a base of concrete. So the wood will not rot.
  • Some choose polycarbonate roofing. It is attached with rubber washers and bolts.
  • Metal poles created with a welding machine are poured with concrete. In the ground, they are quite deep (they are buried about 1.5 m).

Garden Tents

Today, many people choose to use garden tents for summer cottages. Most often, pipes made of aluminum or plastic are used to create their framework. For the manufacture of the tent used durable fabric material, often synthetic. In such structures are usually soft, transparent windows. The door can be draped using a mosquito net. Such structures are portable, teams. Do not place a garden tent near a fire source.

The construction, which is notable for its considerable size, can also be used to place a car there. It is quite easy to assemble such structures: you only need to be guided by the recommendations that are indicated in the instructions.

Hammocks

Hammock - a very convenient device that allows you to effectively relax and rejuvenate. This is usually called a piece of mesh or fabric material having a rectangular shape, which is located between the supports. Country owners, who want to relax in the shade, usually hang a hammock between the trees. However, you can do without trees. You can create your own pergola with a hammock. Wherever such a structure is located - the sun's rays will not disturb you.

First, determine where the facility will be located. Then dig into the ground the pillars of metal or of wood. It will be necessary to pour concrete into the pits. Hang a hammock using chains or sturdy, rather thick ropes. As a canopy, you can use a polycarbonate sheet or fabric material. Secure the canopy to the pillars.

It should be noted that today in many stores ready-made designs with a hammock are sold. Canopies-gazebos of various designs, shapes and shades are available to consumers. Usually such constructions can be disassembled. When assembling a structure, recommendations from the manufacturer should be taken into account (first read carefully the instructions).

Such a structure can be placed anywhere without thinking about installing support pillars, because such hammocks are portable. Such facilities have many advantages, but their cost is usually quite high. If you are still not sure that you are ready to give money for a gazebo-hammock, try to build such a structure yourself. There is nothing difficult in this: you will only need to be patient and persistent, and pick up materials of high quality.

Design examples

A pergola with a hammock is an option that is ideal for the dacha.

Arbor-tent - a very beautiful design, which is associated with lightness and airiness.

An interesting example of a canopy, an arbor for firewood.

Some people like plastic structures much more than metal ones, but it should be borne in mind that the sun can negatively affect such material.

Beautiful metal arbor with decorative elements.
