How to install the door hinges and how to hang the door on them?

Installing door hinges in the repair of their own hands - responsible work, because the accuracy of the orientation of the door relative to the door jamb depends on their correct tie-in. The slightest bias can lead to a loose closing or, in the most difficult cases, the complete impossibility of closing with a lock. Therefore, there are two ways out - learn how to hang the door on your buttonholes on your own or entrust this important procedure to a qualified specialist.

There are several types of door hinges.

The most durable and reliable. Have not very attractive appearance. Chromed products are more attractive, but their cost is higher than that of ordinary ones. The term of use of these elements is almost unlimited.

The most beautiful in appearance, but short-lived loops. Brass is a soft alloy, therefore it tends to grind off fairly quickly.

The material for their manufacture are alloys "under the brass." Relatively cheap parts, but their operation time is short, as they wear out too soon.

The design of the door hinges depends on the material of the door leaf.

• Elements for glass doors (for example, bath or sauna) - grab and fix the glass on both sides. Assist in fixing have inserts made of rubber or silicone. For the installation of such door hinges require special equipment.

• For metal doors, hinges are divided into external and hidden. In the design of the outer bearing bearings are provided or balls, liners and screw adjustment. This is done to compensate for the erasure of metal parts. Internal loops (hidden) prevent unwanted personalities from entering the room — damage or removal is impossible, since they are deprived of protruding parts.

• For plastic doors, hinges are equipped with devices to adjust the distance between the door leaf and the box.They are mounted by craftsmen on metal-plastic doors used for balconies and loggias.
• Models for wood doors are divided into overhead, or card (simple and angular), mortise, screwed and Italian. Overhead can be removable and non-removable. It is possible to self-install them on the door between the rooms with the help of carpentry tools.

The following parameters affect the choice of door hinges.

• Weight. For massive and oversized doors, additional hinges are required, whereas usually they only need two. In this case, the third loop is not set in the middle, but shifted slightly up. It should also be noted that not all fasteners are suitable for elevated doors.
• The presence or absence of ball bearings. They are necessary so that the heavy doors open easily and do not creak.

• Opening vector. On this basis, loops are divided into right, left and universal. The latter type of products may be attached from any side, but their installation and disassembly becomes more complicated.
• Intensity of operation.

To insert hinges into the wooden door you will need the following tools:

• electric (chisel) and hammer;

• screwdriver;
• screws;
• pencil for carpentry;
• building plumb (level);
• wedges made of wood.

First you need to markup. From the top and bottom of the door leaf measure 20-25 cm and mark with a pencil. Check the wood in this area for defects and damage, if they are found, slightly offset the markings.

Attach the edges of the buttonholes to the markings and draw their outline. Cut down the chisel in the door recess along the outlined contour to the depth of the tool thickness. Remove excess wood using a chisel and a hammer. If you make a mistake at this stage, use cardboard or rubber liners.

Attach the hinges to the door leaf with screws (self-tapping screws). Drill thin holes for the screws to prevent cracks.

The same procedures are carried out with a door jamb. For cutting the contour of the door hinges in the box, the door leaf is fixed with wooden wedges, while leaving a gap of 2-3 mm between it and the box.To facilitate the work, if the lock is already embedded, lock the door with a key.

Check the position of the door in space with a plumb - deviations in any direction are unacceptable. For accurate marking, unscrew the hinges from the door leaf.

In case of insufficient experience with carpentry tools, the installation of “loopless” butterfly loops would be an ideal option. When the door is closed, both their parts are embedded one into the other. For easy opening and closing of the door you need a small gap between the leaf and the box.

• Measure approximately 25 cm from the top of the door frame, attach the product and draw a circle. This is necessary to edit the position of the part in case of its displacement.
• Drill small holes in the mounting points of the screws.
• Attach the hinges to the frame.

• Put the door in the opening with the necessary clearances. Secure it horizontally using wooden wedges.
• Mark the place of the top buttonhole.
• Screw the top loop and remove the wedges.Temporarily prop the canvas to prevent it from tilting and deforming the loop.
• Check the vertical position.
• Mark the location of the bottom loop. Drill holes for the screws.
• Screw in the screws and fasten the lower loop.

To put loops on the metal entrance group, you need to perform slightly different actions.

Required tools:

• welding machine;
• electrodes of 3-4 mm cross section;
• grinding machine with a grinding wheel;
• felt-tip pen;
• 3 mm metal plates.

• install metal door in the door frame;
• place the prepared plates under and from the sides of the canvas to provide the necessary distance between it and the box;
• measure from below and from above on 24-25 cm and mark this place with a felt-tip pen;
• attach the hinges with the orientation on the markup and determine their location, which ensures the freedom of opening and closing the door;
• point-weld the hinges so that they hold the door mass securely (first remove the bearing and adjustment screw);

• check the correctness of their location, gently closing / opening the door, also pay attention to the freedom of movement of the door, the absence of skewing and full opening;
• if everything is done correctly, thorough weld all the details;
• remove slag with a grinder until the smoothness of the junction;
• insert ball bearing and screw adjustment;
• paint the door and hinges, fill the inside with grease.

For fake cloths, it is better to use corner buttonholes. Their difference from straight lines is that instead of plates they have two corners.

The installation of angular overhead models is made according to the same algorithm as the straight ones - one part is attached to the end of the door leaf, and the second is attached to the joint.

At present, when installing, more advanced types of products are used. Hidden models do not spoil the presence of the surface of the door leaf, they do not require special care for themselves, and the doors on such hinges are better able to withstand cracking and unauthorized entry.

• mark the location of parts of the product;
• by electric mill cut a hole for the mechanism;
• in the place intended for fasteners, make a recess with a chisel;
• disassemble buttonholes;

• Most of the paste in the joint and secure the screws;
• the smaller part is fixed in the door leaf;
• connect the elements and tighten the adjustment screw;
• If you want to mask the visible parts of the products, install the decorative overlays.

Screw-on (screw) and Italian models are not as common as others. Installation of Italian hinges is the same scenario as the installation of invoices, but with one difference - the elements are fixed at the top and bottom of the door, and not at the side.

Screw-on hinges are very easy to find out by how they look: instead of side plates with holes for fasteners, they have threaded pins, which means that the door and the box are fixed in the canvas. For fake doors this is the best alternative. In addition, they can be adjusted and they are almost invisible.

When loosening the attachments of the hinges, tighten the screws. New models include a mechanism, adjustable hex key, which tightens the door to the desired position.

Hidden hinges can only be adjusted when open.It is necessary to remove the masking pads and then fasten the screw. Adjustments can be made in three ways.

Before you finally hang the door on the hinges, carefully check the correctness of its position vertically and horizontally with a building level (plumb). Eliminate all errors in the position and hang the door. Be sure to support it in the process of cutting loops so that the first embedded part does not deform under the weight of the web.

Try to do everything neatly and accurately. In this case the saying “Measure seven times, cut once” is relevant. If you take careless measurements or errors in the process of fixation, you risk ruining both the door leaf and the door jamb, and this is not only additional efforts and a spoiled mood, but also quite sensitive financial costs.
