Eaves for stretch ceilings

The ceiling is one of the most important components of any home! And what it looks like depends on a lot: from the aesthetic pleasure of the apartment owners to the appraisers' perception of the premises when selling them. Today, stretch ceilings are gaining much popularity due to their simplicity, aesthetic component and cost. True, despite these advantages, there are still disadvantages. Under such ceilings it is necessary to pick up special chandeliers, plinths, as well as curtain rods. This article will help you to understand what a cornice is and how to choose it correctly.

Special features

I want to start with the fact that by themselves stretch ceilings already greatly change the visual component of any room, smoothing out all the irregularities, changing them to a thin smooth surface. But, as elsewhere, when stretching the ceiling there are some nuances that are in the right choice of decoration.

In particular, the choice of curtain rails for curtains.

  • The first feature is that there are a lot of types of cornices, and accordingly, it is very difficult to choose a particular combination. Of course, the stretch ceiling is a static matter and, after stretching, it is rather difficult to change something, but even in this case, it is possible.
  • The second, but no less important feature is the need to choose the curtains under the eaves, and not the eaves under the curtains. And it is necessary to do so just because of the first feature - a large selection. It would be a shame if under the purchased beautiful curtains you can not find a suitable mount.
  • And of course, it is worth noting that the correctly chosen eaves will make any room look completely different. We can say that this is another feature.

Kinds

There are a lot of varieties of cornices, so I want to focus on them a special attention. The main division is divided into two types: wall and ceiling.

Wall divided into:

  • Profile This type is a construction of aluminum or plastic, with guide runners, on which holders for curtains are placed. There are curtain rods with one, two or three rows for holders, which allows you to combine different types of curtains and create various interesting and unique compositions. Moreover, such eaves are safe enough for a ceiling leaf, since its parts, although they are close enough, do not have the ability to tear it in any way due to the absence of moving and sharp parts.
  • Round. This type of cornice also takes place when using stretch ceilings, however, when using it, you must carefully choose the height of the location due to the fact that the rings on which the curtains are placed are in constant motion and can damage the canvas when carelessly used. It should be noted that with a properly selected distance, the use of such eaves is completely safe.
  • Strings. A two-sided wall is built on the support, between which a very thin, almost imperceptible steel cable is stretched. The main disadvantage of this design is the inability to withstand heavy curtains. The maximum that they can do is light, air curtain or tulle. But this solution looks very good, because it creates the effect of "weightlessness" of the fabric.
  • Bay windows. Bay window is a peculiar projection in the wall, equipped with windows. For rooms with such projections, standard, straight eaves are not suitable because of their inflexibility. In such a situation, a bay eaves, made of aluminum, which is shaped like a specific niche, comes to the rescue. This is the most common option because of the ease of execution, however, any other types of wall curtain rods can be used for bay windows.
  • Baguette. The peculiarity of this type of cornice is that the whole structure, on which the curtains are mounted, is hidden behind a decorative strip, which can be made in almost any style and fit any interior item, whether it be a floor, ceiling or furniture. A well-chosen baguette can decorate any room. It is very often possible to meet baguette eaves with use of various illumination.
  • Rounded. They differ from the others in that instead of direct execution they have such a rounding at both ends, which gives the impression that the eaves literally grows straight out of the wall. This solution looks very neat and beautiful in almost any room, especially if it is combined with a baguette decoration of the cornice.

When choosing ceiling eaves, it should be noted that in most cases, they repeat the techniques used in the manufacture of wall (baguette, rounded, bay, profile, and so on), but the main difference in installation technology.

So, they are divided into:

  • Hidden in a niche. In order to secretly place the eaves carry out several manipulations. At the beginning, when the ceiling is tightened, a beam or plywood is installed at a distance from the wall with a window, onto which, directly, the canvas itself is attached. Thus, a kind of niche is formed between the window and the ceiling, in which the cornice is located. If done correctly, whatever the eaves installed, it will seem that the curtains appear literally from nowhere. This solution is very interesting and its peculiarity is that it is possible to change the curtain rods without risking any harm to the stretch ceiling. Such eaves are also called built-in.
  • Open With this kind of things are even more interesting. To accommodate such a cornice, before tensioning the ceiling, it is necessary to install a bar or plywood, which will continue to hold the entire structure, at the place of the planned fastening. Then, after finishing the work on the tension, the eaves itself is directly built into the installed timber. Visually, this may be an interesting solution, but the replacement, in the event of deterioration or obsolescence, will be very difficult.

It should be noted that the eaves are divided according to two criteria:

  • Technology control mechanism for opening the curtains. It is divided into manual closure and automatic retraction, that is, using an electric drive that drives a device with hooks or rings along the cable. Automatic, most often used in office space with high ceilings.
  • By the number of rows. There are one-, two- and three-row cornices, the choice of which is due to the need to invent many options for the organization of living space.

As a separate view, you can specify the eaves for the suspension of paintings.

In fact, this view implies the placement of paintings on the area of the whole room, which can be beneficial under certain conditions, for example, in an art gallery or for organizing a home exhibition. Fastening methods of such eaves do not differ from the ceiling ones, however, there is still a difference in them. It's all about the mechanism of attachment of the paintings themselves. Instead of the usual rollers and rings, fixed hooks are used here. Can be installed in any part of the room.

All ceiling cornices can also be made suspended, for example, a round cornice can be installed in the ceiling instead of a wall, after which curtains are also hung on it and use occurs as usual.

Dimensions

In every house, apartment, office or any other room, window openings are often made to individual orders, which means the need for curtain rods of various sizes. It is reasonable to say that even on a very long room you can install a single eaves, however, it should be clarified that when mounting, the maximum weight of the fabric located on it and additional fastenings for the wall should be taken into account in order to avoid hanging the eaves and damage the appearance of the walls and ceiling. If you do not want to risk, it is preferable to install several eaves of smaller length, however, this solution may be more expensive.

In general, the size of the eaves can be very different: from half-meter, for the decoration of the bay window, to ten meters in length

. However, as already mentioned, it should be remembered that every 1.5-2 meters it is required to establish a fulcrum for strengthening.

What else you need to know about choosing the size for the eaves:

  • The eaves must be longer by at least one and a half centimeters on both sides;
  • The length of the eaves should be a couple of centimeters less than the distance from the wall to the wall.

You will learn more about how to install the eaves for suspended ceilings in the following video.

Materials

The materials from which modern eaves are made can be very different. For example, aluminum is most commonly used for the profile, while wood is used for baguette. In addition, in the manufacture of eaves use:

  • polyurethane;
  • various metals, including precious;
  • plastic.

However, to achieve aesthetic beauty or non-standard performance materials can be combined in various combinations.

The cheapest option is, of course, plastic. In addition to the cost, the advantages of this material in the ease and simplicity of mounting, however, this is also a minus, because it is light because it is rather fragile. However, it is worth noting that not all types of eaves made of plastic are cheap and fragile. As an example, it is worthwhile to cite a rail eaves with a body made of plastic and filled with metal parts. This combination of materials looks very profitable because of the average cost and high quality.

Wooden eaves, though not the most popular, but extremely beautiful and practical. Suitable for almost any interior, but are best used in private country houses, especially wooden. The tree-tree combination wins always.

Metal structures are used much less frequently due to the severity and complexity of mounting, however, as a decorative ornament or the use of light alloys such as aluminum is used very often. Aluminum is most relevant in the manufacture of profiled cornices, because it is light and flexible. Such a roof can be given almost any kind that is necessary for the room. Metal parts can be found in combination with plastic structures and wood.

Which is better to choose?

When choosing a cornice for the room should be rememberedthat in order to minimize energy consumption and cash flow, it is better to do everything together, that is, to stretch the ceilings, buy curtains and fasten them to a hanging eaves. This is basic advice before making any decision.

It is also necessary to understand what kind of best fit for the equipped premises. To do this, you can invite a specialist designer who will help resolve all issues in the shortest possible time.

If this option is not suitable, then it is enough to remember what is already installed in the room and choose from the presented variety of cornices one that fits into the interior as precisely as possible.

Based on the above, we can say that when choosing it is important to know the following things:

  • The size of the room, as well as the size of the window openings. This information is simply necessary when determining the length and type of the eaves to be installed.
  • Features of the room. The presence of bay windows, differences in the level of the stretch ceiling, the size and number of niches. The more features, the harder it is to choose a cornice that satisfies all needs.
  • A very important criterion today is the cost. The more complex and intricate the design and the better the materials used for it, the more expensive it will cost. For example, baguette cornice made of plastic parts with movable hooks, covered with a plank made of wood with a thread, will cost more than a simple profile.
  • View of the room. So, for children's rooms, it is possible to order the production of a cornice using decoration in the form of toys, whereas in office rooms one can most often find rail tracks with automatic control, and in the head's office - an expensive baguette model inlaid with various stones or decorated with carving.
  • Type of curtains used in the room. In the guest room, a standard solution would be to use a two-row profile cornice with tulle in the far row and a dense, night curtain in the middle. In the kitchen, light curtains placed on a string structure will look very organic.
  • It is also important to consider how the ceiling is stretched. For rooms in which it is not fully stretched, that is, a niche is formed, it will be more correct to purchase a suspended ceiling cornice, which will not be difficult to install.

What curtains fit?

When a person gets into a new, unknown room, the first thing he does is pay attention to the first window that comes across, looking at it and the landscape behind it. And nothing underlines the window opening, as correctly selected curtains. Properly selected curtains can completely transform the room, decorating it and filling it with raging energy. The choice of curtains is quite a difficult task, because it requires the implementation of a number of rules and compliance with features.

First you need to decide on the size of the window and the room, with its interior.

You should also take into account the size of the ceilings and features installed eaves. If the ceiling is low, then it is preferable to use plain, calm models, no frills. If the window opening is wide and the ceilings are high, then you can walk around by buying long curtains with lambrequins and various assemblies, without forgetting that high-quality, well-reinforced cornices are needed to hold heavy curtains. In order that the curtains are not lost in the interior, you need to choose a color a little darker or a little lighter than the general tone of the room. PWhen choosing a color, it is better to focus on the color of the installed furniture than on the color of the walls, since the furniture changes much less frequently than faded wallpaper.

When choosing curtains, you can contact a professional stylist, who will help you choose what you need with almost one hundred percent probability.

If a specialist could not help, but you still need to choose curtains, it is better to choose neutral, quiet curtains of medium size. These are a bit cheaper.

In general, the choice of curtains depends very much on the room in which they will be used: living quarters should be different in calm tones that do not strain the eyes and do not over-excite the nervous system. These colors include sand, cream and beige. For the bedroom, it is better to choose calm, soft tones, allowing the brain to relax and have a good rest. These colors include: green, dull dark blue, creamy gray and pearl tones.

For a living room, the choice of color depends only on fantasy. But, of course, you should not choose too frilly or screaming curtains. This is not fashionable now and may not be understood by guests. In the kitchen, experts recommend choosing curtains that best fit the style of the room.

Variants of interior window design ideas

When making a window opening, rememberthat this is a whole set of individual elements, forming a single whole. And the more interesting these elements are, the better the result will be. For example, you can take a standard double-wing window in the guest room. A very interesting option would be to use a baguette or rounded cornice of the wall type with a two- or three-row curtain holder arrangement mechanism.

In combination with a stretch ceiling, such a combination will look even more advantageous if you place translucent tulle with a touch of color suitable for the overall interior of the room on the far row, and on the average place two half-thick curtains moving apart. Leave the front row for decoration with several strips of stand out fabric, which can be used as a separate element of the interior, and, for example, tie up the second row curtains. In this case, the third row is not necessary at all, but if it is, it can be very advantageously used to visually improve the overall picture.

For the kitchen interior solution will be quite different. There is a fairly single-row profile cornice decorated with LED lighting, with light, translucent curtains or tulle on it, emphasizing the elegance and simplicity of the room.In the office, the ideal option would be a rail eaves with a remote control, divided into several compartments approximately two meters in length. Instead of curtains on the mountings, vertical blinds with a reversal function to neutralize the sun's rays will look great.

The window in the nursery will look great if you decorate it, for example, with a round cornice with a single-row profile on which to place the night dense curtain. The eaves can also be additionally decorated as a favorite toy of the child or choose curtains with embroidery of those items that will visually emphasize the belonging of the room. There are so many options for choosing curtain rods, curtains and design names for window openings that you can continue the list almost endlessly.

To pick up a cornice that satisfies all needs is a rather difficult task, but, without a doubt, doable. The main thing is to understand what result you want and correctly assess your strength.
