Breathed plastic windows with ventilation box Air Box

 Breathed plastic windows with ventilation box Air Box

For quite a long time, PVC windows replaced the old wooden windows. They are considered safer and more reliable, and they look more beautiful. PVC windows have good sound insulation and have low rates of heat loss.

However, due to the impermeability of windows, there are problems with fogging of glasses and reproduction of pathogenic microflora. One of the ways to solve this problem is to install an Air Box vent box on the window, which will provide ventilation and help reduce the amount of moisture and condensate on the window.

The design and principle of operation of the valve

Air Box is an air valve manufactured by a Russian manufacturer. The main purpose of the device is to provide air exchange in the room with the window closed. It also acts as a kind of filter.

The Air Box is a rectangular plastic product that is attached inside the frame to the sash. From the street, it is absolutely not noticeable, because it has no exterior elements (as standard).

Is included in the package of the ventilating stitched valve:

  • a casing consisting of plastic, which is mounted on the casement window and displayed in the room;
  • a set of interchangeable seals, which are installed instead of standard window seals;
  • fasteners.

Due to the fact that the usual sealant is replaced with a narrower one, a small gap is created between the window frame and the sash, into which the air from the street penetrates.

At the top, a valve is attached to the leaf, on the case of which a control mechanism is installed (it differs from one model to another), which is controlled manually. It changes the degree of opening and closing of the window. Thus, in the room there is a natural ventilation of the air.

The movement of air occurs from the window in the direction of the ventilation shaft or exhaust.The air flow is directed upward through the inlet valve, so there will be no drafts and a sharp drop in temperature in the room.

Types of Air Box Vent Valves

The manufacturer offers three product systems:

  • Air Box Standart;
  • Air Box Comfort;
  • Air Box Comfort S.

All three systems differ in parameters, installation method and appearance. Let us consider in more detail each of them.

Air Box Standart

The system consists of two white plastic valves, which are mounted next to each other in the fold of the frame. Two cuts of a sealant of different length and four self-tapping screws are included in the package.

The main function is to prevent condensation on the plastic window. Installation of the system is made without milling holes. The wizard simply replaces the standard window sealer with a narrower one. As a result, a small gap is created between the frame and the casement. On it the air from the street passes to the valve, and then, moving up, into the room. At the time of passage, it partially heats up due to the heat exchange between the sash and window frame.

Inside the valve there are special valves that move. Their main task is to prevent drafts.In calm weather, they are completely open. If the wind increases, the damper closes slowly (or may close completely). This is necessary in order to prevent freezing of the valves and reduce the draft.

Systems like Air Box Standart come in three variations, each of which can be compatible with a window profile of a different type (KR, VA, TF). When selecting this should pay attention.

Air Box Comfort

This system is more popular and more productive. The main feature is that its installation can be carried out in two ways.

Externally, the system is a single plastic white valve. In the center of it is a flat regulator that moves horizontally. When it is shifted to the right - the maximum air flow, while shifting to the left - the flap closes completely. The air flow from the valve is directed upwards. The system can be used on any window opening structures and on profiles of any manufacturer. Two cuts of a sealant of identical length and three self-tapping screws are included in the package.

Air Box Comfort S

This system can be installed on any frame or sash of wood or aluminum.There is only one option for mounting this system - mounting into holes made by a router. The set comes with one sleeve and two self-tapping screws. In this case, a compactor is not included in the kit, since it is not necessary to cut it from the window.

Externally, the system looks like a white plastic valve with a round regulator in the center. Its difference from the previous system is that it does not have a scale, and the adjustment is made by turning the knob. When turning right, the valve closes, and when turning left, it opens. The direction of air in this case is bilateral. In the valve body the air flow is divided into parts. The advantage is that the window is better blown by air.

Comparing the production characteristics (air flow) of all three systems, we obtain the following:

  • Air Box Standart - 4.8 m3 / h, (differential - 10 pA);
  • Air Box Comfort - 1 m3 / h (installation without milling) and 40-42 m3 / h (installation with milling);
  • Air Box Comfort S - 40-42 m3 / h.

Noise isolation of all systems, according to reviews, is 32 dB.

Valve mounting

There are two installation options for the ventilation intake valve.

Option one - installation without drilling. This method is easier, faster and does not require special skills. The inflow of air into the room while small.For installation you will need a stationery knife, a screwdriver and a ruler.

We will analyze the installation steps.

  • To select the installation location, try on a valve on the moving leaf and try to open and close the window. The valve should not touch the window slope.
  • Attach the valve to the installation site and cut with a knife on the sides of the seal. Then remove the valve and completely remove the standard seal.
  • Clean the dust and dirt where the new seal will be installed.
  • Insert the gaskets from the kit into the groove where the seal was removed.
  • On the valve, remove the protective layer of adhesive tape and attach the valve to the installation site. Carefully see that all the parts are tightly in contact with each other, and the sticky layer of double-sided tape has not shifted. Screw the valve to the frame with screws from the kit. Insert the gasket from the kit into the grooves that formed between the screwing points.
  • Close the window. On the window frame (opposite the place where the valve is installed), remove the typical seal on the 350 mm segment and install a new one from the kit.

Option Two - is the installation with the milling of holes. This will require a drill with a drill diameter of 10 mm (for Comfort) or 12 mm (for Comfort S), as well as a knife and screwdriver.

Installation of the Comfort system is performed as follows:

  • determine the place for installation;
  • on the casement window, remove a part of the old seal and install a new one;
  • we put the valve on the window sash, close it and mark the place of installation;
  • outside the frame, we mill two holes with a height of 12 mm and a length of 157 mm (the distance between them should be 12 mm);
  • fasten the valve with screws using a screwdriver.

Installation of the Comfort S system is as follows:

  • determine the place of installation and mill (or drill through) the holes for the passage of air;
  • insert the sleeve into the hole and fasten with screws;
  • mount the valve and tighten the regulator.

Tips for choosing and using

      When buying an air valve, pay attention to the complete set. When installing the valve, please note that milling the window frame may weaken the window structure. The impermeability of the chamber can also be impaired, which may cause moisture to enter the window chamber.

      In order for the windows to be "breathable", you should not forget about the care and cleaning of the valve. At least twice a year you need to make cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth. And in extreme cold, do not close the valve completely to prevent it from freezing.
