Atoll reverse osmosis filters: product features and installation steps

Clean drinking water is an important issue. Atoll reverse osmosis filters are systems that provide the highest possible water purification thanks to a multi-stage technology that employs the principle of membrane processing. This is an advanced method, so this product is widely demanded, including in our country.

Device and features

The basic principle of reverse osmosis is the pressure difference arising on both sides of the membrane (the main filter made of polyamide or cellulose acetate). This is a special cellular material with multiple pores, hollow fiber or roll. As a result of passing through it, the liquid is purified by 99, 9% of various undesirable impurities.

The membrane is very thin, but it consists of two layers with different densities. Actually, this is a feature of Atoll water filters.

The process of water purification itself is as follows:

  • first, the water passes through three prefilters, in which it is mechanically purified from the largest particles;
  • then it enters a carbon filter where it disposes of many organic substances and chlorine compounds;
  • followed by repeated mechanical cleaning of the smallest fractions by sifting;
  • finally, the liquid reaches the membrane filter and is processed at the level of molecules under pressure;
  • at the same time, the water is separated: the net water is sent to the accumulation tank, the rest - to the drainage;
  • the last stage of processing includes the purification of activated carbon.

Thanks to such a multi-level method, the liquid is obtained purified from dangerous bacteria and viruses, salts of heavy metals, dissolved salts. Such water can be called drinking. It has no odors, has a pleasant taste, it can be used even for small children.

Advantages and disadvantages

This product is certified, has a warranty period (the membrane is designed to operate for 3-5 years).

Its main advantages can be considered:

  • obtaining extremely purified water enriched with oxygen and having high taste qualities;
  • simple installation and repair (for this there is no need to use the tools at hand, and the connection using tubes of different colors makes this process intuitive);
  • nice design of models, suitable for any interior;
  • high quality of components produced by renowned manufacturer Pentek;
  • the ability to purchase the necessary replacement parts.

The disadvantages of devices relate not only to Atoll filters, but also to similar devices using reverse osmosis:

  • fairly slow generation of clean water at an average performance;
  • the possibility of using only prepared water (it is necessary to acquire a simple mechanical filter device);
  • high water consumption (when cleaning up to 70-75% of the liquid is discarded);
  • since the water at the outlet is purified to such an extent that it lacks the necessary minerals, the user will have to buy a special device that can restore the useful composition of water.

Despite these shortcomings and considerable cost, Atoll products are highly appreciated by experts and are very popular.

Model overview

Filtering equipment can be selected based on performance, depending on the needs for a certain amount of water, as well as on the basis of the conditions of different pressures present in the plumbing system.

  • Atoll a-550 "Patriot" - a small compact model, mounted under the sink. A feature of the device is fixing with special clips. The equipment has a capacity of 120 liters of water per day. The working temperature is from +4 to + 38 ° С, the pressure is 2.8-6 atmospheres.
  • Atoll A-575p STD - the modern device suitable for the apartment or the private house. Works with a low pressure in a water supply system (2,8 and below). Thanks to the pump, this model increases the water pressure and increases productivity up to 195 liters per day.
  • A-450 STD - the most demanded modification with a capacity of 10 liters of fluid per hour. The advantages are excellent assembly, durable plastic cartridges, filter mounting on a metal plate and high quality osmotic membrane manufactured in the USA.
  • Atoll A-560E. This system has high performance (up to 260 liters of water per day). It can be used for large families, and is also suitable for offices, cafes and other public institutions. The storage tank stores up to 8 liters of fluid.The model is equipped with a high-pressure pump, ceramic drinking faucet, built-in membrane. The device can be purchased in assembled form, or as a set of elements.

With low pressure in water pipes, modifications with the “P” index should be chosen, since they are equipped with a special pump.

System connection diagram

Installation of the device, if you follow the instructions, can be carried out on its own.

Included filtering device has everything you need for this:

  • the device itself with a block of replaceable consumables;
  • liquid supply shut-off device;
  • special plastic wrench;
  • tee;
  • plastic pipes;
  • mixer (for clean water);
  • fasteners.

Before work, it is important to check whether the length of the pipes is enough to connect the system.

The installation process itself includes the following steps:

  • at an angle of 90 degrees do trim the tube, preventing leakage;
  • then the tube is immersed in the connector for a few millimeters, so that it is tightly compressed by its ring;
  • to prevent disconnection, a clip is installed;
  • the mixer of the purified liquid is cut into the sink;
  • connect cold water at a temperature of +38 degrees;
  • after it overlaps, the mixer is opened, so the pressure is released;
  • if water continues to drip, conduct a total overlap in the room or in the entire building;
  • assembling the fluid supply unit, connecting the tee to the tap (do it carefully, otherwise the thread may be damaged);
  • at this stage it is important to ascertain the maximum density of the wiper;
  • the supply unit is mounted in the supply line, after which the mixer is connected to a filtering device.

As a rule, the first flask is already installed during assembly, so the rest should be mounted. To do this, the container is unwound using a plastic key (you can tighten it with your hands). It remains to open the supply of fluid and mixer for purified water. If no leak is detected, the valve closes.

It is recommended to carry out work in rubber gloves to prevent infection from entering the equipment. A few days after installation, monitor the presence of leaks. Initially, the water will have a milky hue due to the presence of air bubbles, but this should not be a cause for experiencing, after a while the liquid will acquire its natural color.

Filter replacement

Unfortunately, periodic replacement of some elements cannot be avoided, but it does not present any special difficulties.

To do this, you must perform the following steps:

  • for a start, it is worthwhile to disconnect the device under the sink, having previously made a ceiling;
  • then the lower container is unscrewed using a plastic key; it should be emptied and rinsed;
  • the sealant should be lubricated with silicone paste, which is included in the equipment set;
  • New consumables are mounted in a container that is installed back;
  • this is how the entire device is connected in series.

After turning on the supply, it is important to carefully check the system for leakage.

Replace the elements with a certain frequency:

  • coal cleaner - every six months;
  • mechanical sump - once every 60-90 days;
  • polypropylene - once in 6 months;
  • membrane filter - once in 24 months;
  • carbon ionizing layer - once every 12 months.

If the system is regularly optimized, the device can be used for many years.

Equipment malfunctions

System crashes can occur for a variety of reasons.

There are several main types of faults.

  1. Leakage.The reason may be that the pipes are cut unevenly, there is no tightness, there are pressure drops or the thread is not fully tightened.
  2. Water flows into the drainage. This is possible with malfunctioning of the shut-off valve, clogging of replacement parts, damage to the pre-filters or low pressure.
  3. Insufficient water in the storage tank. This situation may occur at the beginning of the operation of the device. To fill the tank, it must take at least 1.5 hours. It may also be caused by clogged membranes, other filters, or high pressure in the tank.
  4. Low productivity. This is due to kinked tubes, low inlet pressure, clogged membrane and other cartridges, too cold water.

Another common problem is the unpleasant taste and smell of water. This is due to clogged filters or improper connection of the tubes. Noise occurs due to high inlet pressure or clogged drainage. If the pump does not turn off, you need to adjust the high pressure regulator, or find out why there is not enough water in the tank.

Customer reviews confirm that the Atoll reverse osmosis system is a completely worthy option for cleaning fluids. There are some complaints about the price and complexity of installation, but in general, customers are satisfied with this high-quality equipment.
