Three-stage water filter: advantages and disadvantages

 Three-stage water filter: advantages and disadvantages

People who care about their health, make special demands on the quality of drinking water. Unfortunately, ordinary tap water does not meet the requirements and established standards, and simple boiling is not enough to clean it. To remove small particles of sand, rust and other inclusions, you can use a three-stage water filter with replaceable cartridges.

Special features

The principle of operation of such a device is a gradual purification of water from certain impurities using filters from different materials. The design of such a product for filtration consists of three flasks with different cartridges.

The first fabric cartridge cleans fluid from mechanical impurities. The second - coal - filters out chlorine impurities. In the third flask, a silver-plated cartridge is inserted, which kills all bacteria and viruses harmful to humans. The more expensive the cost of the product, the larger layer of precious metal there is on the last filter, and the better it copes with cleaning the liquid from impurities.

In addition to filters that allow purifying water in the classical way, there are also devices with reverse osmosis. Osmosis is a method of dividing solutions into components using a special membrane and obtaining a more concentrated liquid. Accordingly, during reverse osmosis, the flow of liquid is forced through the membrane, passing into a less concentrated solution and freeing itself from those particles that are larger than the size of the water molecule.

A three-stage filter operating on this principle consists of three parts:

  • compartment pre-cleaning with three cartridges;
  • main cleaning compartment with reverse osmosis membrane;
  • finishing compartment with a coal postfilter.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are many advantages to filters with three stages installed under the sink and having a separate gander.

  • They allow you to protect dishes and household appliances from the effects of rusty water with impurities, which significantly extends their service life.
  • If you find out the composition of impurities in the water of a particular region, you can select cartridges to filter these particular substances. There are also cartridges that soften water and saturate it with various elements.
  • Three-stage filters are easy to use and are sold in such a wide price range that everyone can purchase a product at a suitable price.
  • Such filters have the highest degree of purification, which allows them to be used not only for autonomous water supply, but also to be connected to the central water supply networks of high-rise apartment buildings.

The disadvantages of such devices include only:

  • labor-intensive installation;
  • the need for self-cleaning mesh cartridges from debris.

Installation

The three-stage design is designed for installation directly under the kitchen sink. When buying, be sure to make sure that all fasteners for installation are included in the package. Often an extra tap is installed on the sink, extending from the filter.This water is used for drinking and cooking. The old gander remains in order not to waste cartridges on washing dishes or cleaning.

Water supply to the structure is organized through rigid pipes.which also act as a small filter support. To avoid having to buy additional fittings for connecting products, the pipe should be selected after purchasing a filter of such a diameter that it coincides with the connector in the product. The installation itself is carried out with the usual tools (screwdriver, screws, tape measure) and does not require special skills.

The main thing is to leave a distance between the floor and the filter housing that is not less than its length. In this case, replacing the cartridges will not require dismantling the entire structure.

Manufacturers

Basically, in the Russian market, products for filtration of drinking water are represented by domestic companies that manufacture products of the highest quality. Among the “Barrier” filters, both flow-through and reverse osmosis structures are produced. They can process up to two to three liters of water per minute, and together with them the company produces many different cleaning cartridges.

Also one of the oldest leading companies in the market is the St. Petersburg company Geyser. It has more than twenty patents for the production of filters developed through scientific research.

The main competitor of the two largest companies is Aquaphor, which since 1992 has been manufacturing similar products. They consist of special carbon fibers, called "Aqualene", which are developed by the manufacturer.

The relatively young Ukrainian brand "New Water" also produces filters installed under the sink. In 2000, HB became a member of the World Water Quality Association. Also at the Russian factories are assembled devices of the American brand Atoll (Atoll), which include four different modifications of three-stage filters in the line.

Summing up, it can be noted that the three-stage flow filter is an excellent option for water purification both in a private house and in a city apartment. The system has a democratic price, it is easy to install, and clean water will always be freely available.
