Rules for draining water from Thermex water heaters

The heater is a special device that provides uninterrupted supply of hot water. The owners of these devices periodically face the task of draining the liquid, which is not so difficult to cope with, if you know the features of the device boilers. However, models from different manufacturers may have certain structural features. This article will discuss the rules for draining water from a Thermex water heater.

Feature

A water heater is a device that provides constant heating of water. A special place in the market of such equipment is taken by Thermex devices. The Italian company specializes only in the manufacture of boilers and is known worldwide as a manufacturer and supplier of high quality equipment.

The company produces water heaters of several types, which can vary in the following parameters:

  • power;
  • the form;
  • volume

The volume of Thermex boilers varies from 5 to 300 liters. The most popular on the market are devices with a volume of 80 to 100 liters. The design of the boiler may depend on the specific model, but in general terms is as follows:

  • external case, which is made of stainless steel. In devices of small volume, the body is made of high-strength plastic;
  • internal tank for liquid. This element is made of metal, which in turn is protected from corrosion by a special coating;
  • a magnesium or titanium anode protects the heater and tank surface from corrosive formations;
  • a thermostat is used to maintain a constant temperature of the liquid in the device;
  • The heater is located at the bottom of the unit. This element is a nichrome wire that is twisted into a spiral and placed in a copper tube;
  • Two tubes that are attached to the bottom of the tank are necessary for taking cold and hot water.

Drainage of liquid from a small capacity boiler is the simplest.These devices are manufactured without a drain hole and filled with water through the top. To empty the tank, you just need to flip it. Removing water from devices with a separate drain hole will be a little more difficult.

Why empty the tank?

Thermex water heaters do not need to be emptied regularly. It is necessary to drain water only in the following cases:

  • Sometimes boilers are installed in rooms where there is no heating. In this case, before the onset of frost, water from the tank must be removed. Otherwise, the liquid will freeze, and the ice, in turn, will put pressure on the walls of the container, which can lead to a breakdown of the device;
  • the anode in the device may eventually fail. To replace it, the container also needs to be freed of residual liquid;
  • the boiler may need to be descaled, especially if it contains water with a large number of different impurities. This procedure is usually carried out once every 2-3 years. Accumulated scale will interfere with the normal operation of the water heater. To remove sediment tank must also be empty;
  • when the water heater is not used for a long time, various microorganisms can actively spread in the stagnant liquid.An unpleasant smell will come from the boiler and in order to eliminate this problem it will be necessary to empty it and fill it with clean water;
  • the boiler tank needs to be emptied if the need arose to move the device to another location.

It is worth noting that certain situations do not require the complete discharge of water from the boiler. If the device is used irregularly, it will be enough to fill it with fresh water at least once a week. Thus, the liquid in the tank will not stagnate.

When you want to turn off the water heater for several months at once, it is also not worth it to completely empty it. It is recommended to leave at least some water in the tank. Otherwise, corrosive formations may appear in the tank, and if you accidentally turn on an empty device, it may cause a fire. When the Thermex boiler is warranted, independent actions to repair or clean the device may lead to the refusal of specialists from further maintenance. During this period, all necessary actions with the device should be carried out only by the service center master.

Instruction

The process of draining water from boilers from different manufacturers is almost identical, with the exception of some nuances.Before emptying the Thermex water heater, it is recommended to perform some preparatory steps. First of all, the device is disconnected from the power supply network. This measure is necessary for safety reasons, otherwise the equipment may fail, and the person working with it will be injured.

And you also need to turn off the water supply taps in the house so that water does not flow into the tank. The equipment is left untouched for some time to cool the water in the tank.

As mentioned earlier, Thermex boiler models vary in shape and size. Flat devices of large volume are equipped with two openings for giving and outflow of water to which tubes are attached. Before draining water from devices of this type, the tubes must be removed. Thermex water heaters of small volume and round shape work on a different principle. In order to empty the device of this type, it is enough to turn off the cold water supply and empty the remaining liquid from the tank.

Popular methods

There are several ways to drain water from Thermex water heaters.

  • The first method is to use a safety valve. This element is most often located on the cold water supply pipe before entering the tank. This method of water drainage is the simplest, since it does not require special skills and efforts. To empty the tank, you need to turn the safety valve release knob, after which the liquid begins to drain. Pre-under water, you must put an empty container. The disadvantage of this method is a great waste of time, since water will drain very slowly, especially if the valve is clogged. For example, a 50-liter tank with a corrected valve will empty for about an hour and a half.
  • The following method involves emptying the tank through a special hole.to which the cold water supply pipe is connected. This method is more laborious compared to the previous one and requires some effort and accuracy. To perform the work will require an adjustable wrench. Under the water is also required to establish the capacity of the required volume. With the tool, you need to remove a few nuts that ensure the integrity of the unit, fastening some elements together. The first nut is located near the check valve and the cold water inlet.The second nut is located next to the safety valve, which, after removing the nut, must also be removed. The last nut is located next to the hot water outlet pipe. In order for the liquid to begin to drain, you need to turn the hot water valve. Thus, air will begin to flow into the tank, which will push the liquid out of it.
  • The last way is to drain the water through the intake and water hoses. This method is inconvenient because it will not be possible to control the flow rate of the liquid that will flow out of the tank. This option is suitable only for those appliances that hang over the bathroom. To empty the tank, simply remove both hoses, after which the water will pour out of it within a few minutes.

          Whatever method is used to empty the tank, special attention should be paid to re-commissioning the device. First of all, all disconnected elements of the device are installed in their places. Next, you need to turn on the water supply and fill the boiler. Only then can the device be connected to the mains.
