Transforming cots for newborns: features and tips for choosing

Any young family is faced with the fact that it is necessary to quickly find significant amounts of money in order to urgently provide with all the necessary new members of the family, who are also rapidly growing, regularly changing their own needs. In such a situation, furniture such as a transformer, which is capable of changing at the will of the owners, acquiring new functions, can become a real find for the family budget. Buying one such piece of furniture is cheaper than several separate items, but the functionality does not usually suffer from this. The crib is by far one of the most popular such purchases.

Variants of models

Transforming cots for newborns imply a combination of such furniture with something else, and the task of parents is to determine what potentially new features they expect from such a purchase. The manufacturers themselves, in pursuit of consumer attention, are ready to offer the most unusual combinations that can offer maximum functionality, however, not all potential buyers imagine that such a thing is possible. For this reason, it is worth starting with considering possible options.

  • Bed with a chest of drawers. This solution is very beneficial for small apartments, since both the sleeping place and the storage boxes are present here initially - the baby is sleeping as it were on top of the cabinet. The possibility of transformation here lies in the fact that the bed can be increased over time by moving part of the boxes for things. Such models like "Fairies" in our country can be safely called massive.
  • Cots with a pendulum are a combination of an ordinary bed and a cradle. In general, the bed is fixed. But if you want parents can push it, and it will begin to swing with a small amplitude. Some popular models are able to respond even to the activity of the child - not only to movement, but also to crying.
  • Models with changing table. All at once for the newborn, because without the last detail the young mother will be hard. Since the table is actually needed only at the beginning, over time it is transformed into something else - this can be either extra bed space or a writing desk.
  • Round models. The initial meaning of this design is the absence of corners, which should have a positive impact on the possibility of avoiding injury to the baby. The product, due to its shape, takes up quite a lot of space, while it severely limits the growth of the baby; However, then it is a transformer - over time, its parts can be put together in a different order, turning the furniture into a bed of a more usual shape.
  • Multifunctional options. Some manufacturers thought that it was not necessary to combine only two main functions within a single piece of furniture, and released the first 3 in 1 models - a bed, a changing room and a chest of drawers. After that, their imagination was no longer hold, and in pursuit of the consumer models were released 5 in 1 and even 8 in 1.Of course, excessive universality implies a partial duplication of certain functions, however, this may still be interesting for some families.

Merits

The very active conquest of the market by transformers in itself suggests that such a purchase is very justified and practical. Whatever model the consumer chooses, he is guaranteed to receive a number of advantages, among which the most important ones should be highlighted.

  • Furniture for a baby is usually bought for just a few years, as it grows quickly and its needs change. Transformer allows you to make the once purchased thing serve longer - some models "see" not only rapid growth, but also the maturing of their owner. Such an approach saves not only finances, but also the time of parents who do not need to re-run their stores every two or three years in search of replacing old furniture.
  • Almost any transformer assumes the presence of at least one or two boxes for storage of things that are always at hand, given the low mobility of the newborn. The zone of permanent residence and regular maintenance of the baby can be organized literally on two square meters, which greatly speeds up and simplifies all the necessary operations for the mother.
  • Buying a transformer always saves a lot of parental money - here there is also a peculiar purchase effect, and the presence of common walls between the bed and the same dresser, which allows the manufacturer to save on materials. As a rule, a transforming bed costs about one and a half times more expensive than a similar simple one, but instead you would have to buy a separate cradle, a changing table and a closet for storing things, and then also buy one or two more spacious beds for a growing child.
  • Many modern apartments, built in Soviet times, do not differ in the abundance of free space, because even the presence of two children in a family can force all households to make room. Well, even if there is much, but in many cases such a task becomes a real problem. Again, in this case, a transformer can be an excellent solution, since it provides everything needed for a newborn in a space of two square meters. This means that the baby has enough not even a room, but one corner, which means that parents with the first child can even live in a one-room apartment, and with two - in a two-room apartment.

disadvantages

On the one hand, the transformers look like a real panacea, on the other - why did they not force out the classic twin beds with wardrobes, if they are so superior to them in all respects? Numerous reviews indicate that such furniture, like any other, there are certain disadvantages that sometimes push and completely abandon this acquisition. For the sake of justice, most of the shortcomings of transforming beds are not related to absolutely any kind of such furniture, but only to specific models, but at least the buyer should be wary of choosing a product.

  • The maximum risk is the possibility of buying low-quality goods, which should replace a whole set of furniture. If the bed is made of second-rate material, which will soon lose its visual appeal or, worse, functionality, then not only a sleeping place will be spoiled, but also a chest of drawers, a changing table, and all other elements of the purchase, which means you will have to spend money again. At the same time, transformers more often attract the attention of not the most affluent consumers, who often choose them for the sake of an opportunity to save money, and this only aggravates the situation even more.

Remember that when choosing furniture with a mass of functions and for many years to come it is naive to expect that the cheapest model will be the best option.

  • A transformable baby bed is considered an excellent option for a child, since it can grow over time, but in fact most models only “grow” in length, ignoring the increase in width. Of course, in the shoulders of any child does not grow as rapidly as in height, however, it is clear that even a first grader will have a hard time sleeping in a crib for a newborn.

It remains only to look for an initially wide model, or to try to find a crib that can not only lengthen but also expand.

  • The pursuit of manufacturers for compactness also affects such an important element of a complete set as drawers for things or a chest of drawers. Usually they have very limited sizes, so it would be more correct to say that the most basic things can be stored there, and not literally everything a baby has.
  • It would seem, buy a transformer - and the problem with the replacement of the bed is solved without additional costs of money, but not everything is so simple. In the starter kit, the product usually comes with a mattress, which is designed specifically for the newborn, and when unfolded, such a bed usually does not follow any generally accepted dimensions of the bed. At the same time, experts studying healthy sleep argue that matching the size of the mattress to the sleeping area has a decisive effect on posture and proper development of internal organs, so it is possible that parents will have to run a lot before they find a suitable model. In any case, you will also have to spend money on its purchase.
  • With all the comforts, the transformer, in which a maximum of various functions was pushed into the minimum area, is distinguished by its heaviness and inaccessibility of the space under it, and therefore full restoration of order under such furniture will prove problematic. Moreover, getting something from under the crib that accidentally fell there is a whole task that you cannot cope with without dad.

What sizes are there?

Since a transformer is such furniture, which in principle tries to expand the limits of standards, it will be naive to think that it can have standard sizes. It all depends on both the specific manufacturer and the configuration, including the desire of the company to squeeze the maximum capacity into minimum dimensions. It would be more correct to say that some combinations of length and width occur much more frequently than others, since they are considered optimal. For example, the averaged parameters of a transformer bed for a newborn are 120 by 65 centimeters, and if a company positions its product as growing, then the length of a berth usually increases to an indicator of no more than 150 cm.

However, the transformer can be bought with a substantial margin - with an eye to school-age children, it can occupy a space of 180 by 80 centimeters, and even more.

Manufacturers Overview

There is no sense in making a rating in this case - each manufacturer is distinguished by periodic successful and unsuccessful models, and each consumer sees his own advantages and disadvantages in each such bed, therefore the results would be too subjective. For this reason, our review will do without the allocation of seats - just select a few manufacturers who, as of spring 2018, enjoyed success.

Transformers of Russian production are in the lead on the domestic market, as there are plenty of raw materials and manufacturing in Russia. If we talk about the percentage of the number of models, then it is Russian creations that occupy a good two-thirds of the entire range.Being represented by no less than ten different manufacturers, among which “Fairy” and “Antel” stand out. If we talk about the Russian segment of such products, then in general it refers to the goods of average quality, not being outstanding neither for the better nor for the worse, although individual models can certainly be worse or better than the overall picture. Such beds are popular due to their wide representation in any region of the country, as well as due to relatively democratic pricing policy - such a product usually costs between 6 and 10 thousand rubles.

If we talk about the products of Western brands, then we have the best Italian brands - for example, Sweet Baby, Nuovita, Feretti, Bambolina, Birichino. Consumers who prefer such products usually focus on the highest quality of production, because the strict consumer standards of the European Union force manufacturers to use only completely safe and durable materials.Of course, such high positive characteristics affect the price - in particular, some Italian transformers may have a price of tens of thousands of rubles. British and Danish cribs are also popular with other European manufacturing countries, but special attention should be paid to Polish products.

The fact is that the models made in this country also fully comply with European legislation, however, the salaries in this country are somewhat lower, and logistics for Russian consumers is cheaper, because the cost of cots from Poland is quite comparable with domestic competitors.

Oddly enough, transforming cribs are one of the very few industries and trade where China has not yet taken the leading role. In our country from the Middle Kingdom, a fairly well-known brand Geoby is presented, which in general is not very suitable for the description of typical Chinese goods, traditionally of low quality, but very inexpensive. Such a bed is unlikely to be able to compete with eminent global competitors, but Russian and some Polish manufacturers are able to compete in terms of reliability and durability.

True, in this case, the Chinese lose their typical advantage in the form of a low price, since the average model costs more than ten thousand rubles, however, it must be admitted that low cost only scares some cautious parents.

Beautiful examples

Parents certainly want their practical and durable purchase to be not only functional, but also beautiful, additionally creating a positive atmosphere in the nursery. Such a bonus is also possible - let's consider how a transforming cot can look like.

In the first photo we see the simplest example in terms of design - the case is entirely white and does not have inserts of a different color, which allows the product to fit into absolutely any interior. At the same time, the bed, chest of drawers, and storage boxes are crammed into an extremely small occupied space, although this model meets all the concerns about the complexity of cleaning.

However, a similar concept can be multicolored, and the combination of black and white is not always strict and official, it is quite appropriate in the case of a baby - the second photo successfully proves all these theses. Here, the manufacturers tried to supplement the general functionality of the previous model with a small changing table, so the result was a full-fledged service center for the baby.

The last example seems similar to the previous two, however, it is clearly seen here that a chest of drawers can be removed over time by increasing the length of the bed, and used as a separate bedside table. Of course, such a decision will take up more space, but this was to be expected, because the child is growing.
