Choosing Tarkett linoleum

 Choosing Tarkett linoleum

Tarkett linoleum is one of types of the synthetic materials used for internal finishing works as a floor covering. The brand of the world famous brand has high performance properties, has a wide range of colors and textures, besides, it is produced in various size and price ranges. It is used for indoor use in residential, commercial or industrial type.

Specifications

The quality and characteristics of linoleum are regulated by the interstate standard - GOST 7251-77 in Russia and the CIS countries, as well as by the international standards EN 548 and EN 685.In addition, there is an indicator UPEC, the data of which report information about the operational properties of a particular model of linoleum. The main characteristics of any linoleum are such parameters as wear resistance, thickness of the protective layer, combustibility and toxicity at ignition, insulating properties, structure of the composition and typical size.

Polyvinyl chloride lamination layer of linoleum is directly dependent on its resistance class. The thickness of this protective layer for household linoleum is from 0.1 to 0.3 mm, semi-commercial brands have a layer from 0.4 to 0.6 mm, and commercial linoleum has the thickest protective layer - 0.7 mm.

The thickness of the linoleum, considered as a coating, also has various options. Since linoleum is most often laid directly on a concrete floor, its thickness will in the future determine the manifestation of its performance, on which the service life depends. Most common range of manufactured brands varies in thickness from 2.0 to 3.5 mm. Household brands make 1.0 - 2.0 mm thick, semi-commercial - 2.0-3.0 mm, and commercial ones have a thickness of 2.0 - 3.5 mm, an example of which is the Tarkett brand.

The dimensions of linoleum often play an important role in its selection. The standard width of the produced linoleum, has dimensions of 2, 3 or 4 meters. In addition to the width, take into account the parameters are long. A typical roll of linoleum can be 15, 45 or 60 meters long.

Composition

Linoleum is a product made from polymeric synthetic materials. Materials obtained by chemical means are quite diverse, depending on their use in the production process, linoleum has a different composition:

  • Polyvinyl chloride composition - polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used as a binder component, which combines plasticizing and stabilizing components, fillers, coloring pigments, as well as other components. The basis is a foamed backing or woven or non-woven fabric. In addition, models with a single-layer or multilayer base are produced, and there are also variants without any basis. The only disadvantage of such linoleum is that while it is being laid, PVC material gives a slight shrinkage.
  • Nitrocellulose composition - Asbestos fiber, vegetable cellulose, gypsum binder, minium, plasticizing and stabilizing substances are used in the production. The material is made without using the base. The shelf life of such linoleum is 3-5 years, it has a low degree of resistance to fire, it reacts poorly to changes in temperature, shrinks during installation, but is elastic and moisture resistant.
  • Glyphthalic composition It is made by applying alkyd resins, a coloring pigment and various fillers to the fabric base of the components. Its service life is up to 6 years, however, over time, the resin, which is part of the material, begins to crack, and during operation, the substrate fabric can be stretched along the lobes, so the linoleum web changes its geometric shape. However, according to the characteristics of thermal and sound insulation, such linoleum has qualities higher than its PVC equivalent.
  • Rubber compound - products with this composition has two layers: a layer of crumb rubber mixed with bitumen mastic is used as a substrate. The top layer is made of a rubber mixture with a coloring pigment, most often rubber is used synthetic. Linoleum has a mass of useful qualities - durable, highly resistant to wear, has a cushioning and anti-slip effect. The disadvantages include the high cost and limited colors.
  • Natural composition - the most expensive type of linoleum, which is considered to be ecological. It is produced on a substrate of natural jute using the following components in several layers: crumbs of cork, linseed oil, resin of coniferous trees, chopped wood, natural dyes. The material is durable enough, antistatic, resistant to fire, has antibacterial properties. The service life with proper operation can be at least 30 years.

When performing installation work, it is necessary to select the adhesive for linoleum correctly, taking into account its chemical composition, so as not to destroy the layer that is the basis of this flooring.

During operation, the material does not emit toxic substances, and when laying does not create problems.

Commercial homogeneous linoleum

There are two types - a group of collections iQ and a group of collections PLUS.

IQ collection includes a wide range of brands that differ from each other in color and design solutions - MELODIA, MONOLIT, ZENITH, EMINENT, GRANIT, MEGALIT, OPTIMA.

PLUS collection - this is the optimal combination of quality parameters relative to the price of the material sold under the brands PRIMO PLUS and STANDARD PLUS.

Homogeneous coatings are recognized as the most durable to date.

They are used where there is a high flow of people. The concept of homogeneity refers to the homogeneity of the material in all its layers. The public and sports type of premises is often decorated with commercial linoleum.

Commercial heterogeneous linoleum

Presented by the brands ACCZENT PRO, ACCZENT ESQUISSE, NEW ACCZENT TERRA, TRAVERTINE, PRISMA.

This type of floor material is used where daily it will be subjected to stress from a high flow of human traffic. The top layer consisting of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), made thickened, which increases the durability of the material and makes it durable. The floor covering does not require any special care.

The heterogeneity of the material lies in the fact that its lower part - the substrate acts as a carrier of the pattern, and on top of it is covered with a thick transparent layer of PVC.

Special coatings

The materials used in areas where special parameters are needed for floor materials are grouped into several general groups:

Antistatic - represented by iQ TORO SC (conductive material), iQ GRANIT SD (current-scattering material), ACCZENT MINERAL AS (antistatic material):

  • Soundproofing - represented by the brands iQ GRANIT ACOUSTIC (noise absorbing properties), EXTRA (noise insulating properties).
  • Skid resistant - represented by iQ GRANIT SAFE brands.T and ACCZENT UNIVERSAL with anti-skid and wear-resistant properties.
  • For rooms with high humidity - brand iQ GRANIT MULTISAFE, which has a special corrugated pattern that prevents falling in wet rooms.

The brand "Sinteros" is represented by brands of household and commercial homogeneous linoleum, and Polystyl, besides these brands, also has commercial heterogeneous varieties.

Classes

According to the standards adopted in Europe, the wear resistance of linoleum is divided into classes:

  • from 21 to 23 class - low level of stability, designed for domestic use at home, with a small load on the patency of several family members;
  • from 31 to 34 class - the average level of durability, called semi-commercial, designed for medium or high intensity operation in conditions of institutions and domestic premises;
  • from 41 to 43 class - a high level of resistance to abrasion, called commercial, used in industrial premises, shopping centers, train stations and similar areas with high traffic of a large number of people.

Such marking is read as follows: the first digit indicates the type of premises (2 - domestic purposes, 3 - commercial purposes, 4 - industrial purposes). The second figure shows the kind of load that a material can experience, the scale consists of indicators from 1 to 4, that is, from minimum to maximum.

For example, a floor covering of class 44 will indicate that linoleum is intended for use in a production area and has the highest resistance to abrasion.

Dimensions

When choosing the width of linoleum, you must take into account the parameters of the room for which it will be used. In addition, it is important to know whether a monolithic coating is necessary in this room, or the presence of joints is permissible. So, if in a room 3 meters wide there is a niche 30 centimeters deep and a doorway equal to 10 centimeters, then linoleum needs to be chosen 3.5 meters wide.

Tarkett linoleum let out from 2 to 4 meters wide. The standard maximum width of 4 meters, but if necessary, the production has the ability to make linoleum, whose width is 1.5 or 5 meters. The length of the rolls in various Tarkett collections is on average from 20 to 45 meters.

The total thickness of the material varies from 1.5 to 3.5 mm, with the thickness of 2 or 3 mm being considered the most common.

Weight

The weight of linoleum is calculated per 1 square meter in kilograms. But the thickness does not affect the weight of this flooring, since the determining factors here are the components of which it consists, having different densities. The minimum weight of Tarkett linoleum is 1.4 kg / m2, and the maximum 2.8 kg / m2.

For example, a coating with a thickness of 2 mm has a weight of 2.8 kg / m2, and a thick linoleum of 3 mm weighs 1.8 kg / m2.

Colors

The colors of Tarkett linoleum depend on its application class. Household linoleum has a wider range of models, which are produced in a single-color version, with an ornament or pattern imitating natural materials - wood, stone, jute, sand. Commercial and semi-commercial models are more restrained in design and have mostly uniform color. As an example, consider several options from the Tarkett floor collection:
