Black linoleum: a combination in the interior

The style of modern interior allows you to enter into it different shades of flooring. One of the most controversial design elements is black linoleum. Despite the apparent gloom, this shade is popular: black linoleum in the interior looks elegant, has several features and advantages, favorably emphasizes the special taste of the owners of the house.

Special features

Black linoleum is a unique design technique. It is a flooring made from natural and artificial materials. This linoleum is recognized as a worthy replacement for an expensive finish (parquet, laminate, ceramic tile, stone), not inferior to it in quality and performance.

You should not think that black is a dark and excessively dark tone. This is a multifaceted shade, in which there may be different impurities (gray or smoky, brown, marble subton). The texture can have different shades of black, which makes it embossed, due to this, manufacturers create drawings on the canvas material.

The infusion of color paints into the shade allows the black coating to be successfully incorporated into a different interior composition.

Black linoleum is versatile. It is a classic design tool that emphasizes the bright spots of the interior. Its purpose is not practical, although the fact is the place to be. Today, designers have proven the opposite: a neutral tone has a lot of advantages.

It is thanks to the black shade linoleum can:

  • advantageous to repeat the texture of expensive natural materials;
  • to improve the decor of the room, emphasizing the location of design objects;
  • to divert attention from the unsightly parts of the room;
  • hide small imperfections of the floor, which are visible on the coatings of light colors (hillocks and cracks);
  • camouflage small scratches on the surface resulting from accidental mechanical impact.

Features of black linoleum are associated with its strengths and weaknesses.

Benefits

This coating has a lot of advantages. It:

  • can be an independent accent spot, or a bunch of separate interior items;
  • performed on modern technologies from high-quality materials, therefore, practical, reliable and durable;
  • it has a different structure (it can be homogeneous and heterogeneous), due to which the color is almost not erased and does not fade under the influence of sunlight;
  • it has a wide range of textures, which gives a lot of opportunities for design in different styles;
  • It has a different width, which makes it possible to lay the canvas with a single sheet without joints;
  • is an excellent solution for areas with high traffic;
  • in a tiled version, it can be complemented by color contrasts, creating an original mosaic to match the interior composition;
  • Depending on the size of the picture, the presence of light contrast and saturation of the hue, it can be used in residential premises (hallway, living room, kitchen, corridor, stairs, bathroom, study, home library) and non-residential buildings (warehouses, shops, offices).

Minuses

With a lot of advantages, black linoleum has several disadvantages. Is he:

  • deprives the room of light, therefore it is appropriate only in rooms with sufficient illumination;
  • often adds to the space a sense of gravity, which leads to the need for careful selection of each element of the situation, including lighting;
  • it does not welcome the abundance of small details of the interior, therefore it is limited in the styles of chaos (for example, kitsch, avant-garde, boho), but it is appropriate in the classics and minimalism (modern, classicism);
  • needs support through small design elements, otherwise it pulls all the attention on itself, reducing the height of the ceiling;
  • It is ideally combined with soft and light shades of the color palette, however, it does not stand up to sharp contrasts (for example, with red it irritates, with orange it looks ridiculous);
  • can not be used in the bedroom and nursery, because, regardless of the softness and dilution of the shade, it does not tune to the atmosphere;
  • not suitable for flooring in small rooms, visually reduces the room.

Kinds

Regardless of the type of production, black linoleum is classified according to several criteria.

By appointment, he is:

  • household - budget option with a minimum protective layer;
  • semi-commercial - the middle between simple and elite materials;
  • commercial - premium view with maximum protection.

The differences between them lie in the thickness of the protective layer (in commerce, it reaches 1 mm) and thickness (commercial coatings are the thinnest). In addition, the difference in external attractiveness is visible: cheap material does not differ in a noble texture, it does not have an additional effect (for example, anti-skid) and losing noticeably on semi-commercial and commercial options.

Varieties withstand different weight loads (the higher the grade and the thicker the protection, the better). However, not everything is simple: a thin coating reveals unevenness in the floor, so when laying it needs a substrate.

This material is divided into two categories:

  • roll type;
  • tiled.

Black linoleum of the first type is a canvas of different widths, evenly wound into a roll. The second covering replaces a tile, is issued in the form of separate fragments of a square or rectangular shape. Due to the unusual appearance and small size, it is convenient in laying, which resembles the laying of ceramic tiles.

This technique is unique in that it allows you to accurately reproduce the texture of the laminate, so the finished coating looks solid and almost indistinguishable from an expensive counterpart.

Designer Tips

Black linoleum is a stylish interior solution.

However, in order to make it look solid and appropriate, we need knowledge of several design techniques:

  • dark color needs light contrast: the flooring is enough for a bright spot of the interior to bring light into the room; you need light and color palettes;
  • you should not rely on some neutral colors: in this case, the black color of linoleum will be a sentence, not a stylish design accent;
  • to highlight the nobility of the texture, you should choose the material for laminate in a shade of wenge: this technique will bring a special status to the interior and hint at the well-being of the owners
  • It is unacceptable to choose a black color for wallpaper with a pattern in the same tone (it is enough to decorate the decor with a black statuette, a chair, furniture decoration);
  • the color of the wallpaper can be milky, beige, cream, simple pattern, without black or brown patterns;
  • combination with the texture and shade of doors and doorways - a great solution: ifthe range allows you to choose the floor covering so that the color of the floor was slightly darker than the doors and openings;
  • experiments with furniture are a dangerous topic: if the shade of the floor covering and the furnishings will coincide, it will create the feeling that the floor has reached the ceiling;
  • a large black coating should not be clearly expressed in a small room: this will reduce the space;
  • the strip on the linoleum print limits the space: its use is undesirable, as is the version with the side border, which simplifies the interior utterly;
  • The black color of the flooring can be softened with natural wood shades: it looks beautiful, stylish and expensive.

Texture

The surface of black linoleum can be varied.

The most interesting textures that are relevant in modern design are:

  • smooth;
  • matte;
  • rough;
  • embossed.

Texture can repeat the surface of wood, stone. For example, the original solution is the imitation of marble chips and reptile skins. Such techniques introduce different temperature and status into the space. In the first case, the room becomes cold, the second stylistics is aimed at the warmth of the interior composition, therefore it needs support with the help of warm and sunny shades.

The drawing can be applied by contrasting paint or extruded by pressing. The peculiarity of the texture is the moderation of the print. It is focused on the imitation of natural materials or is a small accent inserts in the form of squares. Depending on the design features, it may look like a stucco or mat.

In some cases, the surface has single accents, in others it is decorated over the entire area of the canvas.

Beautiful options

Without a visual opportunity to appreciate the beauty of black linoleum in the interior, it is difficult to believe in its beauty and harmony in design. To understand how beautiful and versatile it is, you can refer to examples of experienced designers:

  • In order for the kitchen to look status, it is better to choose linoleum under the tile, maintaining a dark shade through the metal trim elements of the kitchen set (pens) and a plate of the same metallic shade.
  • The interior of the studio apartment can decorate the linoleum under the laminate flooring, complemented by a pleasant terracotta shade of the accent wall, highlighted by a dark chair, a beige armchair and a light-colored rug with a game of contrast.
  • Winning is a reception with a wenge shade floor, light walls with imitation brickwork. Combine the dark shade of the floor and light walls will help furniture in dark gray with beige trim.
