Brazier with lid: types of designs

It is difficult to imagine a vacation in the country without kebabs and cheerful company. Frying meat and fish on an open fire has long become a world tradition, and for our country it is especially important. People enjoyed picnics in nature, and regardless of the time of year, people are happy to gather in big companies by the barbecue outdoors.

What it is?

The name of the device for roasting meat on an open fire came to us from the Middle East. Initially, the object was a bowl in the form of a hemisphere. The heavy metal tank was fastened on high legs, was equipped with tacks for carrying and a hemispherical lid. The deepening of the bowl was filled with burning coals, on which copper or earthenware was placed.

This method of cooking was not widely spread, but was very fond of lovers of picnics and outdoor recreation. Over time, the device for roasting meat on coals was modified; a heavy bowl was replaced by a rectangular box made of lighter metal with holes for the course of the air. Firewood is laid in the brazier, burned to the state of hot coals, after which the meat is placed on top of the skewers or grill. The meat is perfectly roasted under the influence of heat from the coals and acquires a unique, specific taste “with smoke”.

Types

The braziers existing in the modern world allow to choose the most suitable option depending on appointment.

The classification of frying appliances can be represented by a variety of options, however, they are all divided into three main types.

Stationary

As a rule, it is a massive structure on a solid foundation made of bricks or concrete. Such a brazier is installed in the pre-designated area of the site, it is equipped with a roof, a worktop for cutting meat, shelves, accessories for dishes and skewers.Often the design serves as a kind of fireplace for heating the gazebo on cool days. In this embodiment, you should take care of the hood, which can be made in the form of a wide pipe. The lining of the barbecue firebrick will serve to retain heat.

Mobile (portable)

The compact grill for several skewers has a convenient standard form of a rectangular box with legs. It is made of thin metal sheets, often a folding structure for easy transportation. This model is indispensable for hikers and travelers, but it should be remembered that thin sheets of metal are subject to burning and deformation over time.

Mobile

Roaster on wheels - the best option for giving, which will be used from season to season. As a rule, such constructions are rather voluminous in size, suitable for cooking various dishes on charcoal, equipped with all necessary supports and holders. Thanks to the wheels, they are easy to move around the site, roll up under a shed, and before leaving the cottage, put them under lock and key on the veranda, in the garage or in the outbuilding.

This type of grill is sometimes equipped with an electric grill mechanism. The current supply can be partial (for rotation of skewers and uniform roasting of meat) and full (instead of coals in the grill, heating elements are used). Electric grills are equipped with a thermometer and independently regulate the optimal level of roasting.

Dimensions

As with the choice of any product, the size of the barbecue is calculated based on its functions, type of construction and the intended location. If it is a portable compact copy that will travel in the trunk of a car, then its length and width is limited only by the number of necessary skewers. But bulky stationary options can be quite large, with a hinged lid, with a hood and canopy. Such barbecues can have several sections in length for different types of dishes, however, the width should be suitable for the size of skewers. In the best case, it is less than the length of the skewer by 8-10 cm.

The main thing in the grill - its depth. High-quality cooking depends on this parameter due to air circulation between the coal and meat. The distance from the coal to the kebab should be at least 15 cm, and a sufficient amount of coal - 10 cm. Therefore, the standard depth of the product will be at least 25 cm.

The height of the structure depends on the individual characteristics and preferences. It can be both low legs in folding models, and a high base at the belt level of an adult. As a rule, the standard height of the kitchen table is taken as the basis for large braziers - 70 cm.

Placement Tips

Do not forget that the brazier is a fire-hazardous design, even if the fire is limited by metal sides. A gust of wind can pick up the flames and throw it on neighboring trees or buildings.

It is very important to follow the fire safety rules for all types of fixtures.

  • Being in the woods and using a folding small brazier, make sure that it is installed in an open area, away from dry grass.
  • At the dacha barbecue should be located away from fruit trees and bushes. High flame heat can be detrimental to foliage.
  • Do not place the brazier next to wooden buildings. A dry tree can not only catch fire, but also simply become charred, which will significantly ruin the appearance of the building.
  • The canopy from the rain should not be made of film or rubberized fabric.Scattering embers will burn it, depriving the main function. A strong gust of wind can ignite the fabric.
  • The cover for the barbecue should tightly close it after frying. This will allow the coal to go out faster, and also protect them until the next time from unexpected night rain and predawn dew.
  • When installing the brazier, consider the direction of the wind. It is not desirable that the smoke goes into the windows of the house or an open veranda.

An ideal option for installing a stationary barbecue is a brick or tile lined platform. This will increase fire safety, and during rains the space under the barbecue will not erode.

Stylish forging

Braziers are made from high-strength metal and are a prominent subject of landscape design. Braziers made of steel of different shapes with elements of forging can be a unique decoration of the dacha. Braziers in the form of ships, animals, ancient chests, medieval castles - the imagination of the masters is limitless, hundreds of original options can be found on the Internet and catalogs of workshops.

Classic models can be standard shapes.but decorated with floral or abstract patterns.Forged elements give the product elegance and airiness, and made in the same style with benches, a gazebo or a dining room set on the veranda, they will complement the overall style image of the villa. Forged grill can be ordered in a blacksmith's shop, and create your own hands.

How to make yourself?

The most common option for beginners is a brazier from an ordinary metal barrel. The body is cut lengthwise into two unequal parts, one of which will serve as a bowl for the coals, and the other as a lid. Legs from pipes or metal corners are welded to the bottom of the bowl. Handles on the sides of the broiler and on the lid are also attached by welding.

For more advanced wizards, there are many ways to experiment. and create a unique work of art at their summer cottage. You just need to find or draw a sketch, make a drawing, purchase the necessary material and tools. Forged items to decorate the finished product in a wide range are sold in specialized stores. For their fastening, it is not necessary to arrange a blacksmith's workshop; it is enough to have welding skills. At the end of the process, the metal must be treated with anti-corrosion compounds, then the grill will last for many years.
