What should be the hood for the grill?

Brazier - a necessary thing in a private household. This useful device can be of various sizes. For large stationary devices that are used in gazebos or other areas, good exhaust is required.

Special features

Braziers can be portable and stationary. The mobile version is a simple design that can be assembled by yourself. To do to such a device hood is not required.

The stationary brazier is more monumental construction which occupies the large volume in a room.

This unit is designed for cooking for a large number of people. Fuel for its normal functioning requires much more.Without a good hood, this construction will not work effectively.

In such devices, at first glance, there is nothing complicated. However, there are nuances that you should know. Large grill should have good ventilation, which would allow to remove the products of combustion. Such devices, including barbecue, are often sold with ready-made hoods.

Kinds

The device itself is made according to the principle of an exhaust hood; It is a small dome in the form of a hemisphere, cut pyramid or parallelepiped. Often, these hoods are decorated and become part of the overall interior. They look natural and organic.

Prerequisite: the area of the dome should be 30 percent greater than the area of the equipment itself. Only in this case it will be possible to effectively collect and remove combustion products. A prerequisite is also the presence of a high pipe and a fan.

Not less important characteristics:

    • The chimney necessarily has a narrowing and bending, which will generate good traction. The optimum is the distance between the ground and the top point of the pipe at least 2.8 meters. The higher the pipe, the better the thrust will be.
    • A heat-resistant spark arrester is placed at the top of the pipe. It is similar in construction to a sieve through which smoke passes freely.
    • It is necessary to put the grease trap in the form of a frame with a removable container. It accumulates fat resulting from hot meat. Such capacity is periodically changed or cleaned, depending on the design.
    • A smoke exhauster must be present - a fan that creates additional air exchange and increases smoke removal.

    All of the above points are simple in their design.

    It is important that they are properly fitted.

    In specialized stores sold ready-made "umbrellas" of metal, on which there is a duct smoke box. They can be fitted to the homemade equipment.

    Often the hood in large grills is supplied with a fan.as well as a forced blower providing extra traction. By itself, the device has the standard parameters and is not something difficult technically. If the equipment is non-standard, then it can be ordered from a specialized organization. For example, there are companies that make hoods even with complex pipe turns or openby construction.

    Execution of an individual order with additional options can be quite expensive. In order not to spend too much, you can do everything you need yourself.

    The standard parameters of the hitherto exhaust hood for barbecue, working on wood:

    • a metal that is suitable for such products has a thickness of from 1 to 3 mm;
    • smoke box length 855–1550 mm;
    • width - 660–950 m;
    • pipe height of at least 3 meters;
    • pipe section from 255 mm.

      Sizes can vary considerably. However, the proportions are important to maintain unchanged.

      How to make yourself?

      Metal exhaust hood has the following advantages:

      • small weight;
      • it is possible to set additional options;
      • low price;
      • simplicity of design;
      • ease of installation.

        Brickwork has an undeniable dignity: such a structure can stand for a thousand years without visible damage.

        It is only important to clean such an object from soot in time.

        After all, it adversely affects the quality of cooked dishes and the work of the air duct itself. Sooner or later, the traction will be reduced due to accumulated dirt, so it is best to do preventive cleaning.

        It is important to decide at the very beginning which type of exhaust is preferred.

        The materials needed to create a metal hood are simple:

        • iron sheets 1–3 mm;
        • corners section 30 x 30 x 30 mm;
        • bolts;
        • thermo primer

        The height of the umbrella can reach 2 meters, the optimal size of the barbecue while 110 x 65 cm. The umbrella is assembled from three nodes: the base, the dome with internal fastening and pipes.

        With your own hands to make a hood for barbecue is easy. First, a marker is made on the sheet of metal that corresponds to the previously drawn sketches. Then, using the grinder, the necessary components are cut out, the parts are assembled and the joints are welded.

        Brick hood has its own characteristics. It is created from a special brick (chamotte), mixed with clay and sand. Clay must be of a certain grade and soaked in water for 48 hours. In the brick hood is a special frame on which the brick is put. In this case, the material must be treated with special refractory enamel.

        The frame is fixed with brass fittings on anchor bolts or by welding.

        This is followed by the laying of bricks.The base, that is, the first one is glad, is put with the jog side of the brick, the shortest one. A conventional smoke box consists of 9–11 rows. Masonry is done in such a way that it narrows, that is, the displacement takes about 16 mm for each level, on the end part of 35 mm. Then a square-shaped pipe is laid out of brick.

        At the top of the pipe is a cross section of 265-265 mm. This figure is obtained empirically, it is optimal for the work of indentation, and the height of the pipe is about 3 meters.

        After laying, it is important to withstand at least 3-4 weeks for the construction to stand for greater strength. Hurry to use the "raw" construction is impossible. This can lead to deformation and cracking of the material.

        The surface is covered with a special primer, which will protect from exposure to high temperatures. As you can see, technologically, in such works there is nothing super-complicated; a person with minimal construction skills can do the laying.

        Before you begin to work, the corners should be carefully cleaned, then cut with the grinder the right amount.

        During the work it is necessary to use goggles and gloves.

        Selection of materials

        It is recommended to fix the metal hood strictly in the center so that it hangs over the equipment. The pipe is closed with a visor to protect it from moisture. The material is commonly used - copper or stainless steel, which is best against corrosion. Such materials can be used for a long period of time.

        Metal hood - this is the most acceptable option, it is relatively inexpensive, and has excellent performance.

        Red or chamotte bricks are also used for drawing, which has equally good technical indicators. The mortar used for masonry is made in proportions of 1: 3, where 1 is cement of a grade not lower than 400, and 3 lobes is artificial sand.

        Accessories

        Components to create a hood for a large barbecue are required such:

        • trumpet;
        • spark arrester;
        • grease trap;
        • fan with motor.

          All components are collected from different sources. A mangal fan can be purchased in a store, it is easy to make a spark arrester and a grease catcher from a metal sheet.The most important element is the pipe, which must correspond to the working capacity of the device. If the section is too small, the combustion products will fall into the room, which is highly undesirable. Before creating the hood, you need to make a detailed drawing and carry out thorough calculations.

          Drawings

          Properly drawn drawing is a guarantee of the flawless operation of the device for many years. The cross section of the pipe and the weight of the mangal are the main parameters that must be taken into account during the elaboration of the plan-scheme. To begin construction of the drawing follows from the sketch and drawing the basic sizes of a brazier. Based on these figures, it will be possible to further calculate and draw the hood. Properly drawn drawing will also allow you to calculate the amount of material needed. Avoid overrun.

          Assembly instructions

          • First going to the dome. Then the pipe is assembled and fixed.
          • After the completion of welding works, the seams are processed by a grinder. The finished surface is covered with an anti-corrosion primer.
          • Then you should mark the metal that will go to the lining of the exhaust hood. On the corner of the workbench sheets are bent.Metal is attached to the base with rivets and bolts;
          • It is recommended to place a metal plate (size 98 x 35 cm) diagonally in the dome, which will help improve traction. The distance from the edge should be about 1.5 cm, for these edges the plate will be attached.
          • The base is mounted on the grill using anchors or special screws. After the dome is installed and the pipe is fixed with rivets.

          The pipe can be made of brick, but in this case it will weigh much more.

          Under it will require a solid solid foundation, so as not to arise during the operation of deformation or distortions. Exhaust umbrellas made of brick are created according to a simple principle: the frame is made of metal, which is lined with refractory material.

          Often the hood can be decorated with wild stone. The metal umbrella can also be sheathed in wood paneling; between the panels and the metal should be a thermal gasket.

          Where can I apply?

          The hood can be used in any room:

          • on the balcony;
          • in the gazebo;
          • garage;
          • hall of oriental cuisine restaurant.

            If everything is done correctly, in enclosed spaces, the hood will work without interruption for a long time.

            Useful tips

            It is recommended to make the chimney cross-section optimal, the way the chimney will work depends on 80% of the pipe diameter. The metal structure should have a cross section of at least 16 cm. A brick chimney should have a cross section of at least 26 cm.

            The length of the exhaust pipe - a guarantee of good traction. The design must be sufficiently oblong, otherwise the smoke will enter the room. When creating a brazier and hoods, remember that the material must comply with the temperatures at which the process occurs. Otherwise, too thin metal will be deformed. It is also impossible to use asbestos in construction, this material is technological, but unsafe for health.
