 Types of parquet in the interior

Warm and beautiful flooring - parquet, popular in the first half of the XX century in the USSR, again attracted attention. And if there is a desire to decorate your house (and not just the floor) with such a coating, you should understand what types of parquet are and how they can be used in the interior.

What it is?

Parquet called flooring in the form of wooden slats, laid in the form of a geometric or artistic pattern. The tongue and groove connection means are ridges and grooves, which ensure a reliable connection.

But artistic parquet can be connected in another way.

Gothic Europe of the end of the XIII - beginning of the XIV century became the progenitor of such sexes. Nobles could afford to lay out drawings and ornaments of small plates of different breeds.

In Russia, the parquet appeared after two centuries. Until the beginning of the 20th century, parquet boards and shields were made only by hand. And only in the first quarter of the 20th century began to appear the production of mass production of parquet. The result of this work was that after 100 years there is a demand for parquet. And although this is not an expensive flooring option, the desire to make your home beautiful and cozy makes you think about this material again.

Main types

By the way of production this floor covering is divided into several types:

  • Piece - The oldest, but still common. Each level is equipped with a comb on one side and a spike on the other. The slats are made of solid wood. This coating is durable, it can be repaired many times, there are a large number of ways of laying the slats on the floor;
  • Inlaid (mosaic) floor - this is a drawing (mosaic), protected by special paper, which is removed after laying all the shields.To the back of the plates can be glued insulating substrate. According to the method of fastening to the floor, the parquet flooring comes with a fold, with an oblique groove, with fastening on a solid rail, on a soft rail;
  • Shield consists of two layers: the basis of a rough board or fibreboard and "face" - small planks of hardwood with varnishing. Figure unassuming - square, rhombus, rectangle. And only shields to order can have more interesting geometry;
  • Massive parquet - it is an integral board with a crest and a groove. The difference with the piece only in large sizes;
  • Floorboard - This is a combination of three layers of wood of different species. Due to a certain technology, such a material is not afraid of changes in temperature and humidity;
  • Pronto parquet also multi-layered, but has a small size. In fact, these are also piece boards, but made from several types of wood. The technology of creating layering takes up to 7 months. In addition, they make it varnished in 7-8 layers, although there are also non-varnished planks;
  • Palace (artistic) - the most expensive flooring made of natural wood. To create a highly artistic drawing, they use different types of wood,that you need to choose in such a way that they do not affect each other when the temperature and humidity change. In addition, the dimensions of the plates are used not just different, but figured, which significantly slows down the work, increases the cost of parquet and makes it unique;
  • Industrial (commercial) Parquet is again gaining popularity not only in public, sports and cultural areas with high traffic, but also in residential buildings. The principle of its manufacture is very different. The panels do not have ridges and grooves. On the production of the strap is picked up, put on the edge and glue the packaging with adhesive tape, creating small shields. And already in the room, the boards are glued to the floor on a flat surface;
  • Cork floor - This is not a board or plank. The special technology of using bark of balsa wood makes it possible to produce natural rectangular shields of various thickness, which perfectly cope with heat and sound insulation, but are short-lived, therefore they are often used to cover walls and ceilings, but not the floor.

The following types of flooring can be called parquet conditionally due to the use of not only natural wood, but also of artificial materials in their production:

  • Laminate can be hard and flexible. Solid consists of 4 layers.Top decorative can imitate wood flooring. Flexible vinyl laminate is made from square or rectangular PVC. It is less similar to wooden parquet and much inferior to it in its properties. The only indisputable advantage is the low price;
  • Garden or Decking - These are square or rectangular fragments with a soft or rigid mount. It is a hard decking made of solid wood. It is used for decoration of garden paths and grounds. This cover is easy to install, it has a good drainage system, it has a nice appearance.

Wood species

Currently, there are several dozen types of wood used for the manufacture of parquet. Much cheaper will be those that grow in our climate zone. But among them there are rare breeds. Therefore, the price will be formed not only from the difficulty of work, but also the rarity of the wooden array.

Cork oak is ready for industrial use only for 25-30 years of its life. And this is the cheapest technical traffic jam. Especially high-quality material can be removed from the tree when it turns 150-160 years old.

Larch parquet is valued for its excellent moisture resistance and thermal insulation. Siberian larch is not subject to rotting. The array has 12 shades, with a lower price than oak or teak.

Oak - parquet classics. Strong wood is covered with stain, after which it can have shades from greenish-brown to almost black. Only real professionals work with oak. The boards have a pronounced woody pattern.

Beech has the lowest density, so it is easy to process. Good for grinding and polishing. The parquet is smooth, woody pattern is faintly visible. Shades of light, reddish-yellow and grayish colors. There are blotches of dark dashes and shiny plates.

Walnut is a popular tree in different parts of the world. European wood differs in a variety of colors: shades of greenish-gray with dark lines, turning into reddish and light brown. But after several cold winters, the number of trees has drastically decreased, and now American walnut is popular - dark-brown wood with bird pecks, traces of knots. The walnut is hard but easy to process.

Ash is light, uniform, hard and resilient wood. The drawing is like an oak tree, but it fills the house with golden light. The wood is resistant to rotting, cracking. It bends well, but it does not change its size with time.

Cherry has a pinkish brown or pinkish gray mature wood. Its structure is such that it is much easier to process than oak. At the same time it has a beautiful decorative texture, which darkens with time.

Birch will give the parquet white color, possible reddish or yellowish shades. Hard wood is well processed, does not crack. It is easy to imitate under valuable tree species with the help of painting and polishing.

Parquet mahogany hard, waterproof, not susceptible to rapid drying. Merbau has a reddish-brown wood with all shades.

Bamboo is called amber. Very resistant to abrasion. Parquet is not subjected to cycling. After five years of the warranty period, it is simply replaced.

Alder is a popular tree not only in the middle lane. Freshly laid parquet can have shades from light to reddish-orange. Over time, much yellow.The material is hard, resistant to cracking. But insects are often planted on the board.

Russian maple is hard and durable. He has a delicate pattern of gray-pink color, which eventually turns yellow. Wood is easy to polish. With the help of stain it is easy to imitate more expensive tree species. For the manufacture of parquet also use American and ash list, which are much more difficult to process.

Dimensions

To determine the dimensions of the parquet, you can use GOST 2695-83. But since the document was adopted in 1983 practically in another state, not all modern manufacturers adhere to it.

Therefore, the dimensions of different types of parquet boards indicated below may differ from what a particular manufacturer suggests:

  • The thickness of the slats of parquet varies in the range of 15-22 mm with a length of up to 500 mm and a width of 40-75 mm;
  • A stacked parquet is a 400x400 or 600x600 mm shield containing strips of various shades. The thickness of the plates - 8 - 12 mm;
  • Shield parquet has dimensions of 800x800 mm, thickness 15-30 mm;
  • A massive parquet board can have a width of 80 mm, thickness - 15 mm and a length of several meters;
  • Three-layer parquet board has an arbitrary length from 300 to 1845 mm. At the same time, its width is 127-210 mm, and its thickness is 7-23 mm.

The total thickness of all layers of solid laminate is 7-11 mm. Universal length - 185-195 mm, and a width of 330 mm is considered quite wide. Vinyl laminate tiles have several sizes: 300x150 mm, 300x300 mm, 200x200 mm, 490x490 mm. A distinctive feature - a very small thickness - no more than 5 mm.

Industrial parquet has the following dimensions: 8-23 mm width, 8-23 mm thickness, 150-500 mm board length. Universal length is 160 mm.

The size of the cork floor depends on future use. Technical cork is used in the form of a substrate-heater and produced in rolls. The adhesive floor is made 4-6 mm thick and is laid on the glue base. Floating floor is a rectangular panel with a thickness of 10, 5-11 mm, consisting of several layers: base - cork, middle - NDF or MDF, front side - cork, valuable wood, leather or even photoprint.

Color and design

The choice of color and design of the parquet is directly related. In addition to the rational functions of insulation and sound insulation, parquet, of course, has an aesthetic function. Even if it is not an artistic masterpiece, the floor is sure to attract attention. Therefore, it must be in harmony with the wall covering, furniture and textiles. This can be achieved with the help of color and decor.

Dies of most types of parquet have a rectangular shape, but completely different colors.

For small rooms, it is better to use small plates, not forgetting that light shades of the floor will visually enlarge the room.

Bleached floors will make the room light and versatile for many styles. For the north side, it is better to choose yellowish warm shades of plates. Sand color will suit rich classics, and aged rubbing - vintage style.

Spacious rooms and halls allow the use of medium and large strips of any shape. For large areas, dark shades are well suited. Ebony and Polisander parquet, dark merbau and stained oak - this is a real decoration of the house. Wenge will give solidity business style. Golden inclusions in a rich red-brown color - it is expensive and stylish.

Houses dark parquet slats can be combined with light. Pletenka can be completely diverse. Such decor, completed with furniture lacquer or wax, will make the floor glossy and extraordinarily beautiful.

If the monochromatic dark floor was chosen, then it can be decorated with a light carpet with a pattern in tone with the parquet.

Art parquet will be colored by definition. The multi-color of various wood will help to create national drawings or emphasize style features. Modular flooring requires a very large space.

Also, black space is required. It will suit not every home and style. But in combination with white furniture it will be a modern sophisticated classic.

Apartment or house, of course, decorate any parquet. It is created to give warmth and comfort. The main thing is to find a balance in the combination of the floorboard and furniture.

If the color of the floor did not coincide with the furniture, it means that you need to choose an accessory to match the floor covering. Decor with a fabric, paint will help to find matching items.

Popular manufacturers

The construction industry has no problems with the manufacturers of parquet. But how well the quality of the products offered is worth understanding.

The Swedish company Kahrs is positioned as the best manufacturer of floorboard. The company has united several world manufacturers, including Karelian parquet flooring. Kährs uses the most reliable lamella lock, high-quality wood drying, excellent varnish for coating.The manufacturer occupies one of the first places in the rating of Russian buyers.

The huge global concern Tarkett, which has swallowed up a large number of flooring manufacturers, is the undisputed leader in the production of parquet. This is the highest quality and the same price. But given the fact that production is established around the world, not every branch produces high-quality products. In their reviews, Russian consumers talk about a too high percentage of rejected products purchased.

Polish Barlinek pleases buyers with a variety of products. The Barlinek Group has expanded production into several countries. Again, the quality depends on the specific manufacturer, and not on the brand as a whole. Different buyers estimate parquet differently: someone was satisfied, others are horrified by the quality.

Not so famous, but no less popular is the Belarusian manufacturer Coswick. This brand has a varied production: parquet, mosaic parquet, sports floors, wall panels. The company constantly modernizes its production and improves product quality. But while the buyers have many complaints about the quality of products.

Petersburg brand "Imperial Parquet" - is an exclusive luxury parquet for classic style and modern interior. All products are made from high-quality material according to proven technologies on the latest machines. Find reviews about this production is not easy, and it is not surprising: the company working with expensive material in the high price segment, has earned a name among not the poorest people. However, buyers leave only positive feedback about this manufacturer.

Of course, when buying parquet, you need to choose the product very carefully. And still it will be possible to evaluate it only some time after laying. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the beauty and practicality of the parquet does not always depend only on the manufacturer. Unfortunately, illiterate unprofessional flooring is not excluded.

Which to choose?

The choice of parquet depends on what the buyer wants to see in his home.

When buying, you should pay attention not only to the color, but also elementary to the full name of the product.

Parquet is divided into grades, which depends on the nature and method of cutting wood. Radial cut is considered the most valuable.Tangential will not suffer mechanical damage to wood. Mixed has a beautiful pattern, but worse quality than a radial cut.

The wood texture classifies the patterns on the cut:

  • The select has a small pattern, it is uniform in structure and color;
  • Nature is a repeated picture with small knots;
  • Gest - contrast mixed saw cut;
  • Classic - texture drawing;
  • Universal - small knots, framed by different from each other drawings;
  • Antique - drawing, varying with different shades.

The quality of wood for parquet is determined by the concepts of "premium", "select", "standard", "nature", "rustic" and others. Elite wood belongs to the premium class.

Having clarified theoretical issues, we proceed to practice:

  • Ideally, when you have the opportunity to see the future purchase with your own eyes. If the purchase is made via the Internet, then you need to be prepared for the fact that the color may differ from what you see on the monitor;
  • Hardwood parquet boards are much more practical than soft. And make no mistake - in terms of hardness, oak is in the middle of the table of hardness of wood;
  • Another indicator is board stability.It will not be possible for an ordinary buyer to determine it - a professional is needed;
  • The pavers recommend opening the packages directly in the store and checking the geometry of the board. But here you need to keep in mind that in case of refusal to purchase you will have to settle the issue with the packaging;
  • Price for many will play a crucial role. Do not forget that imported flooring will cost more. You should not look for cheap goods in such a meaningful purchase. Parquet flooring itself is expensive;
  • Given that the care of the parquet floor requires a certain care, you should not choose brand shades for the kitchen. It is better to choose a monolithic floor, perhaps a laminate, and not wood;
  • For the balcony is important insulated and practical floor. Experts recommend laminate or decking. It may be worth thinking about cork insulation;
  • Choosing parquet, it is important to remember about the microclimate in the house or apartment. Temperature drops will lead to the creak of natural wood.

Care and maintenance

In order for the parquet flooring to please for a long time and not cause any inconvenience, you should take care of it and follow the following recommendations:

  • Humidity in the room should be 30-60%.If the house is much drier, then you have to use a humidifier. This is important not only for the parquet, but also for people's health;
  • Wet cleaning will save the floor from abrasive particles, and this, in turn, saves the flooring from scratches;
  • Any liquid spilled requires immediate cleaning;
  • Do not wash the parquet flooring with an unwrapped rag;
  • The studs and the damaged sole of any shoe are not designed for the parquet floor;
  • To protect the kitchen floor from accidentally dropping dishes, it is advisable to lay a rug at the sink, hob, dishwasher;
  • On the legs of any furniture it is necessary to glue felt pads to prevent scratches on the floor;
  • Installing a flower pot directly on the floor will cause condensation to form under the pot and cause stains on the board.

If, however, a nuisance has occurred, then the cleaning or easy restoration of the parquet can be done as follows:

  • Spots of juice, wine, coffee, fruit, tea, chocolate are removed with a mild detergent, baking soda;
  • Gasoline will help get rid of oil stains, shoe polish, fat;
  • Denatured alcohol will save from lipstick, ink, ink;
  • Even at the time of laying parquet should use a sealant for impregnation of joints. But during the operation, it is necessary to monitor it and regularly update it if the sealant cracks and falls out of the seam;
  • After laying parquet it is covered with liquid wax or mastic. This method creates a protective film on top of the varnish;
  • You can remove scratches from the floorboard in many ways, which depend on the color of the parquet. The most popular products are wax, which is poured in a molten form onto a scratch, is leveled, and after drying is rubbed with a cloth; the heart of a walnut can also mask a scratch; repair varnish - a simple and effective tool; paint a scratched floor with a retouching pencil; iodine poured dark boards.

But if the floor requires a more serious restoration, it is better to entrust it to professionals.

How to properly care for the parquet floor and how to gradually refresh it, adding shine, described in the video below.

  • Looking at photos of art parquet, it often seems superfluous. But this is beauty in the true meaning of the word;
  • Practical use of artificial flooring: finishing the floor, walls and ceiling of the balcony. This option can only be used in a glazed space.
